“The warm backlight that Sheri has
captured really complements the
subject and made for an ethereal
dreamy effect that I really like.
Composing a shot like this can be difficult to
do, it’s hard to decide what to include or leave
out and this is where focus becomes crucial to
the composition. The focal point can make or
break an image like this, especially when using
a shallow depth-of-field, and here it hasn’t
quite worked for me as the sharpest area is right
at the edge of the frame. Moving the camera to
the right slightly could have achieved two
things: firstly it would have allowed the flower
that Sheri has focused on to be in a more visual
part of the frame and secondly it would
eliminate the darker uninteresting area on the
left side. Sheri has done a grand job of
controlling the exposure here and has made an
appealing backlit image, but overall in this
instance hasn’t quite nailed the composition.”
