New York’s hottest hotels are every bit

as varied and energetic as the city itself

THE EDITION TIMES SQUARE
A sophisticated luxury hotel at the heart of
the city’s brash and bustling tourist mecca
sounds like a contradiction in terms... but if
anyone can pull this off, it’s hospitality legend
Ian Schrager – the man behind Studio 54
and iconic hotels such as the Mondrian and
the Delano. From a simple entrance, you’re
ushered into a lift up to the new hotel’s lobby
and Lobby Bar eight floors up, a series of
monochrome spaces a world away from the
flashing neon signs below. The bedrooms
have an equally understated 1980s feel, with
pale woods and white leather furniture. But
the most stunning space has to be the Terrace
Restaurant Garden (left), an indoor-outdoor
haven designed by Yabu Pushelberg. From
£524 per night (editionhotels.com).

THE HOXTON WILLIAMSBURG

The Brit brand’s first outpost on US soil may
have opened just under a year ago, but by our
reckoning it’s still the most stylish place to stay
to experience the city’s hippest ’burb. Its 175
rooms feature beautiful brass details, raw
concrete ceilings and beds just begging to be
jumped into – think mohair headboards and
bespoke bedlinen from Brooklyn-based designer
Dusen Dusen. Request a Manhattan view room
for one of the best skyline vistas in the world.
While away the rest of your hotel stay in the
comfy lounge, the brilliant Klein’s brasserie or

  • weather permitting – on its sun-spattered
rooftop terrace (right) that’s open until October.
    From £128 per night (thehoxton.com).
