Consider its rugged beaches and famous quality of light and it’s no
surprise that Cornwall continues to draw artists of every description
to its hills and harbours. The biggest celebration of its cultural
heritage is the St Ives September Festival, which keeps the crowds
coming to the picturesque town – known for its Tate gallery and
Barbara Hepworth ties – once the frenetic summer holidays wind
down. Tune in to talks, workshops and guided walks, or take a rare
peek at artists in residence, such as John Emanuel, at the iconic
Porthmeor Studios. 14-28 September (stivesseptemberfestival.co.uk).
There’s more creative buzz just a 20-minute drive across the
peninsula, where Penzance plays host to the Breeze Art and Makers
Fair. Its curators will showcase works from over 50 contemporary
artists and craftspeople in the Grade II-listed Trereife House, where
visitors can wander through the walled gardens and sample artisanal
food and drink from local suppliers. 13-15 September ( breezefair.org).

VERVE Touted as a celebration of exercise
and nature for ‘healthy hedonists’, this new
festival near Salisbury promises a weekend of
wellness. Zen-seekers can enjoy classes, expert
talks and an off-the-grid wild spa with fire and
candlelight. 7-8 September (feeltheverve.com).

MORE FESTIVALS WITH FEELING
There’s still time to hotfoot it
to late-summer gigs offering more
than music – think wellness,
wildness and community spirit

FREEDOM A vibrant celebration of
community comes to Hull at the start of the
month. Street theatre, dance and the spoken
word weave in the festival’s socially conscious
spirit. It’s family friendly and most events are free.
28 August-1 September (freedomfestival.co.uk).

THE GOOD LIFE EXPERIENCE
Bucking the trend for expansion, this north Wales
event has scaled down, sharing life’s simple
joys such as campfire cooking, wild swimming
and crafts like screenprinting and weaving.
12-15 September (thegoodlifeexperience.co.uk).
