British stalwart Heal’s
looks back to Art Deco in its
new collection, a highlight
of which is the in-house-
designed ‘Bloomsbury’
sofa. Featuring sweeping
curves, a wide fluted back
and solid brass legs with
subtle rounded feet, it’s an
ode to the 1930s in compact,
two-seater form. From
£1,999 ( heals.com).
Merchant class
Since opening in London’s Kensington last year,
gallery and design store Eight Holland Street has
garnered a reputation for its inspired curation
of 20th-century British art, European
vintage furniture and design and art
objects. Its newly opened sequel in Bath
- in a listed three-storey former wine
and grocery merchants – showcases
pieces by ceramicist Ali Hewson, artist
duo Forest + Found, maker of marbled
papers Florence Saumarez and St Ives’
Leach Pottery. ‘We love the contrast
between the building ’s historic setting
and our modern furniture and more
minimal artworks,’ says founder
Tobias Vernon (8hollandstreet.com).
