5280 Home – August 2019

(Wang) #1

TIP!
When In Doubt,
Go Neutral!
If the idea of devising a tasteful,
vibrant color palette makes you
nervous, opt instead for time-
less, warm white walls, slightly
brighter trim, and layers
of whites, grays, and beiges
in a range of textures.

IMPROVE THE VIEW
Taking down the wall between
the dining and family rooms
(left) opened up the main-floor
living spaces; Simon Pearce
glass pendant lights—suspended
above the Circle Furniture dining
table—make the most of the
now-airy vibe.

USE SPACE UNPREDICTABLY
When Bear’s fireplace (right) isn’t
in use, a faux log panel—a D.I.Y.
project the designer made using
a single piece of plywood
and slices of logs—adds visual
interest; a matching cubby
meant for firewood is stuffed
with decorative pillows. A
neutral, Sunland cowhide rug
adds another layer of texture.
