Although referring to herself as a designer, Gore originally left Jamaica
to study architecture in New Orleans, going on to gain a masters in
the discipline. Moving to Los Angeles in the early nineties she swiftly
realised the offers she received to work for architecture firms weren’t
going to support her in the American metropolis. She had always
dabbled in design as a passion, it soon became her work as well.
Building a pool house for her neighbour lit the fuse and soon her
passion morphed, working as a production designer for music videos
and commercials around the world, and as an art director for major
Hollywood movies.


Gore began to spend more time in Jamaica 12 years ago. At the same
time her design firm ‘The Yard’ was taking off, she was hardly sleeping
as she run concurrent projects for four years non-stop. It was all with
a view to returning home. Feeling untethered after a period spent
visiting Jamaica whenever she had time off, she decided six years ago
to reverse the process and give her considerable energy and skills back
to her community. Los Angeles’ loss was Treasure Beach’s gain.
