Crown the top of the garden with a pair of chairs. Troughs
provide planting opportunities and a barrier against falls.
Two pots of argyranthemum provide extra colour

Use old artefacts as attractive additions
to walls. Here a leg from a sewing-machine
table is in a corner of the patio

highest of which enjoys sunshine
throughout the day and is home to
a small greenhouse. Both tiers offer
places to sit and relax.
While the garden is split into three
distinct areas, the Beswethericks have
used a variety of devices to bring each
level together, whether it’s the use of
garden ornaments such as rust-effect
poppy heads and bulrushes or repeats

Look for good colour combinations:
a purple-leaf honesty Lunaria annua
‘Chedglow’ looks great with the orange
flowers of Euphorbia griffithii ‘Fireglow’
