ith the introduction of LED in the
industry, lighting has moved from
being static to dynamic to intelligent
and we are now talking about smart lights,
connected lights and lights which understand
human wellness, says Partha Banik, President,
Indiabulls LED business.

How do you see the demand for eco-friendly
lighting growing in India?
UJALA scheme, an initiative by Government
has emerged as the world’s largest domestic
lighting program. In a span of five years, the
Indian LED market value has increased by 10
times. The desired need for eco-friendly and
energy efficient lighting is being witnessed at
commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
Cost effectiveness and eco-friendliness of LED
lights are some of the key factors responsible
for sales volume from all sectors. The robust
demand is a result of various government
initiatives which were introduced not just for
the consumer but also for the manufacturer.

Comment on the emerging trends in energy
efficient lighting?
With the introduction of LED in the industry,

lighting has moved from being static to dynamic
with built in intelligence and we are now talking
about smart lights, connected lights and lights
which understand human wellness. Technology
is evolving to such an extent where all the
services being used in building- lights, elevators,
surveillance, air conditioners etc. are seamlessly
connected through an addressable wireless
network and can be controlled from any part of
the world. This system will help further in energy
conservation as the devices shall be turned ON
only when space or room is occupied and will
remain OFF at all other time. It also understands
our (human) need in terms of brightness and
comfort.

How can lighting enhance the aesthetic
appeal of a place?
The perfect lighting can take anything from
being ordinary to extraordinary. The industry
has now moved forward to provide multiple
color temperature in the same fixture. Along
with the tunability, there is an option of
dimming the light fixture. So now, if one has
natural sunlight illuminating the workspace,
the artificial light can be dim to match the
desired lux level. And the best part is that all

these variations can be automated. The system
has become smart enough to understand
the specific needs of the arena and provide
customised solution.

Please share your latest offering in eco-
friendly and energy efficient lighting.
We believe in continuously evolving our
technology to keep up with the dynamic pace
of the industry. We developed the concept of
light wellness where we replicate the natural
daylight through artificial lighting to boost
emotional well-being, health, comfort and
productivity of an individual. Our body is
governed by circadian rhythm which defines
our active and inactive hours. This circadian
rhythm is linked with the color temperature
of sun as it goes from dawn to dusk. Bringing
this dynamism into the workspace improves
the lighting conditions and thus enhances
employee productivity. We designed and
developed a range of products which are in
synchronous with the light wellness philosophy.
These products are not just tunable and
dimmable but also understand biological need
of human being and are compliantto building
wellness standards.

Technology is evolving to such an extent where all
the services being used in building- lights, elevators,
surveillance, air conditioners etc. are seamlessly connected
through an addressablewireless network.
