ltraTech Cement Ltd is aiming to raise
contribution of green energy to 25 per
cent of its total power consumption
by 2021. This increase is more than double
the current contribution of 10 per cent of
green energy to the company’s total energy
consumption.

The increase in green energy contribution
comes in the wake of the cement player’s

commitment to hike contribution of renewable
energy to its total power consumption by
five times in the next two years. Renewable
energy will contribute to over 10 per cent of
its total power consumption by 2021.

The company plans to build capacity
to generate above 650 million units of
renewable power by 2021. The increased
use of renewable power for electrical
energy requirements will cut annual carbon
emission to 533000 tonnes of CO2, and in
25 years, reduce total carbon footprint to 13
million tonnes of CO2.

Besides renewable energy, the green
energy contribution includes energy
generated through waste heat recovery
systems (WHRS). During FY19, UltraTech
commissioned 28MW of WHRS taking its
total generation from WHRS to 8 per cent of
total power consumption. The investments
in progress are expected to be completed in
a phased manner by 2021, taking WHRS to
15 per cent of total power requirement.

T

he Canvas, a specialised interior design
cell was launched at the central business
district of the city, Sofitel Mumbai, BKC.

The unveiling of ‘The Canvas’ was done in
a very unique and artistic way where the

guests who were present at the event turned
into artists for that night and became an
integral part of creating a masterpiece piece
on an actual canvas which was displayed at
the entrance. The guests were given brushes
with different shades of colours to paint on
the canvas and hidden logo of ‘The Canvas’
was unveiled on stage taking everyone by
surprise.

Sapna Khakharia, Director, The Canvas says,
“It’s a very joyful and a proud moment for
all us. Our vision of starting a specialised
design cell has come true and I am grateful
to all our team members. ‘The Canvas’ is built
on our legacy as creators of extraordinaire
workspaces and we are delighted in unveiling
our new identity as a specialised design cell.
‘The canvas’ will offer a complete spectrum of
design solutions from architectural design to
interior design across corporate, hospitality
and residential.”

IFL Home Finance Ltd has inked a
Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with Indian Green
Building Council (IGBC) for
providing sustainable green living,
for affordable housing section in
India. Both IIFL home finance and
IGBC comprehend the scope in
green affordable housing segment,
as rapid urbanisation and inflating
real estate prices have made
housing an unaffordable dream.

Considering the current scenario,
the necessity for adequate housing
for low-income groups would
escalate. Green concepts and
techniques in affordable housing
sector can help in slashing the
energy and water usage, improve
health and hygiene, provide better
sanitation, better ventilation and
lighting in dwellings. The techniques
would also help save fuel during
transit to work places and reduce
the level of associated pollution.

V Suresh, Chairman, CII-IGBC
and Monu Ratra, CEO, IIFL Home
Finance, have decided to join hands
for promotion and implementation
of green building concepts and
IGBC Green Affordable Housing
Rating System.
