Norwegian will now try to prevent the closure of the two bases has
established at Tenerife and Gran Canaria, due to a new and ever-
changing competitive environment.
The carrier is seeking feeder partnerships in Asia and the US, as the
European market is currently “flat”.
Norwegian will add services to Tenerife South from Gothenburg
and Reykjavik in late October 2019.
It will launch services from Gran Canaria/Las Palmas to Billund and
Reykjavik on 30Oct19 with B737-800s; a new non-stop service to
Bergen from Manchester on 28Oct19, again with the B737-800; and
from Copenhagen to Munich and Fuerteventura in late October 2019
with B737-800 and B737 MAX 8.
Norwegian will offer no further flights from Cork or Shannon
airports in 2019 due the MAX grounding, and flights will be re-routed
via Dublin for the remainder of the summer season.
Norwegian Air Shuttle has filed various Boeing 767 services to/
from Oslo, leased from EuroAtlantic. The leased 767 is scheduled to
operate following routes on selected dates, until 31Aug19.

Oman Air [WY/OMA] [Oman] has been granted a tentative foreign air
carrier permit with associated conditions for flights between the US
and Oman, and beyond.
Oman Air has commenced seasonal direct flights from Muscat to
Alexandria, the airline’s 53rd destination in its expanding global
network. The carrier is to drop its Muscat – Mashhad route on 02Oct19,
which is operated with B737-800.

Onur Air [8Q/OHY] [Turkey] added an Istanbul – Anapa route on
14May19 with an A320.

Pakistan International Airlines [PK/PIA] [Pakistan] resumed
services to Japan from 30May19, with a B777-200ER operating
Islamabad – Beijing – Tokyo Narita.

Peach Aviation [MM/APJ] [Japan] reports a net loss of US$1.8 million
in fiscal year ended 31Mar19, due to integration-related costs.
Operating revenue increased to $561.3 million.
Peach Aviation and CFM (US) have signed an agreement for the
purchase of 20 LEAP-1A engines to power the airline’s new fleet of
A320neo family aircraft. The agreement is valued at US$294 million at
list price; the aircraft were ordered in 2016.

re-orientated and more closely aligned with the Network unit as
integration into Eurowings will not be further pursued.
The Group plans to remove seven aircraft types from its long-haul
fleet by 2025, leaving eight. Group-wide standardisation of A320
family aircraft is also planned.
Lufthansa Cargo is in talks with unions to retire its MD11F fleet
earlier than planned, with the 12 freighters on track to exit in 2020.


Malaysia Airlines [MH/MAS] [Malaysia] and Japan Airlines have
signed an MOU to pursue a joint business agreement, covering flights
between Malaysia and Japan by mid 2020. The collaboration will
include cargo and tourism.
CEO Izham Ismail has dismissed calls for the carrier to shut down
and welcomed investors to come on board to help with its turnaround.
The carrier is seeking approval from parent Khazanah Nasional
(Malaysia) for a revised turnaround plan to align its business strategy
and fleet to meet its targets.
Malaysia Airlines is looking at its order for 25 B737 MAX jets “very
carefully” in light of the global grounding and plans for the first
delivery in July 2020 could be delayed.


Nordica [EE/EST] [Estonia] and its subsidiary Regional Jet’s joint bid
has won the four-year tender contract for operation of a Swedish
domestic flight route between Stockholm and Arvidsjaur and Gallivare
until the autumn of 2023.
Nordica may be sold or will end up with a strategic partner, says
former finance minister, Sven Sester, who criticised the carrier’s
withdrawal from the passenger business as “not a good solution” in
terms of the state’s strategic interest in the airline.
The carrier suffered losses of US$2.5 million in 2018, which do not
reflect the economic results of its subsidiary Regional Jet.
Unconsoldiated turnover totalled $7.9 million.
Nordica will close five more routes in its winter 2019/20 program,
and transfer all ticket sales and customer service on the remaining
routes to LOT Polish AIrlines.

Nordwind Airlines [N4/NWS] [Russia] has applied to its aviation
regulators, seeking to begin flights to New York.
Nordwind Airlines has been banned by air regulators from using the
A321 and A330 following a recent unscheduled inspection by the agency.
The carrier began Makhachkala – Antalya services with B737-800
on 07Jun19.


Norwegian Air Shuttle [DY/NAX] [Norway] – acquisition rumours
caused stock to jump amid possible bids from British Airways (UK),
Iberia (Spain) and Lufthansa (Germany).
