Hot Chocolate


Make way forluscious mugs of rich hot chocolate


to warm you up on even the chilliest winter days.


THICKSPANISHHOTCHOCOLATE
PREP+ COOKTIME 15 MINUTESSERVES 2


Place2½cupsmilkand2 cinnamonsticksina medium
saucepan.Remove2 tablespoonsmilkfrompan;stir
togetherwith3 teaspoonscornflourina smallcuptoa
smoothpaste.Bringmilkalmosttoboiloverlowheat(do
thisslowlysothemilkhastimetotakecinnamonflavour).
Add150gfinelychoppedcinnamon-flavouredSpanish
darkchocolate(seetip),cornflourmixtureanda pinchof
chillipowder;whiskuntilchocolatemeltsandmixture
boilsandthickensslightly.Discardcinnamon.Pourinto
twolargemugs.Beat½cupthickenedcreamtosoftpeaks.
Spoonontochocolate,topwithextragratedchocolate and
a pinchofchilliflakes.Servewithchurros.
tip Cinnamon-flavoureddarkchocolateisfromdelis;or
use dark chocolate and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon.


SPICED& SPIKEDHOTCHOCOLATE
PREP+ COOKTIME 20 MINUTES(+COOLING)SERVES 2

Cut2 slicesfroma mediumorange.Studthewhitepith
ofeachslicewith7 wholecloves.Placeorangeslices,
½cupwater,2 wholestaranise,¼cupfirmlypacked
brownsugarand1/3cupspicedrumina smallsaucepan;
simmergentlyoverlowheatuntilsyrupy.Remove
orangeandstaranise;reservetoserve.Add150g
choppeddarkchocolate;stiruntilmeltedandsmooth.
Stirin2 cupsmilk;bringtoa simmer,stiroccasionally.
Pourintotwolargemugs;topwithvanilla ice-cream,
reservedorangeslicesandstaranise.
tip If youdesireevenmorechocolatedecadence,replace
the vanilla ice-cream with choc chip ice-cream.
