The week’s best live action

MasterChef Australia,
Wednesday.

CRICKET
The Black Caps will have some
idea of the Sri Lankan conditions
from their three-day match in
Colombo as they head into the
first of two test matches, which
is at the Galle International
Stadium, supposedly one of the
luckiest venues for the Sri Lankan
team. The Black Caps’ seam
bowlers dominated Sri Lanka at
the Cricket World Cup, but in
deference to the conditions, there
are four spinners in the team,
with coach Gary Stead taking a pick’n’mix approach. The
test starts on Wednesday (Sky Sport 2, 4.15pm).
The second test in the Ashes series also begins on Wednesday
(Sky Sport 3, 9.30pm); the venue is Lord’s in London.

decides to spend the rest of
his time in a hospice, the gang
decide to bust him out for one
last hurrah. On a happier note,
Westside has been funded for a
sixth season.

TUESDAY AUGUST 13
Impossible Builds (TVNZ 1,
8.30pm). Prefabricated houses
don’t sound as sexy as the
ambitious homes featured in
Grand Designs, for example,
but in this new UK series,
it’s all about the locations.
Architectural designer Charlie
Luxton and commercial
designer Aidan Keane follow
couples who have picked strik-
ingly remote locations to build
their “dream kit home”. In the
first episode, it’s a clifftop on
the north-west coast of Scot-
land accessible only by a 13km
single-track road. Other loca-
tions include a site overlooking
a lake in Norfolk, a plot with
panoramic views on the Isle of
Harris and a smallholding in
the Scottish Borders.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 14
MasterChef Australia (TVNZ
1, 7. 30pm). My Kitchen Rules
finishes on Monday (TVNZ

2, 8.00pm) with a panel of
10 judges as a celebration of
10 years of the show. Mas-
terChef Australia enters its
11th season, which will be
the final year featuring judges
Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan
and George Calombaris.
Guest chefs include Nigella
Lawson, Rick Stein, Yotam
Ottolenghi, Maggie Beer,
Heston Blumenthal and Clare
Smyth.

THURSDAY AUGUST 15
The Posh Frock Shop (TVNZ 1,
8.40pm). Thoroughly
non-demanding TV: this
observational series cap-
tures the brides, mothers,
mothers-in-law and designers
at fancy London boutique
Blewcoat, home of
British designer Ian
Stuart. Then, at
9.10pm, a new
season of Driv-
ing Test follows
Aussie learner
drivers.

The Posh Frock Shop, Thursday.

DARTS
The World Series of Darts arrives in Brisbane for its third
of five events and there’s some Kiwi representation, with
regional qualifiers Haupai Puha and Ben Robb stepping up
to compete against the world’s best, including world No 1
Michael van Gerwen and flamboyant Scot Peter Wright.
Coverage of day two is on Saturday (Sky Sport 8, 9.00pm).
It’s a busy month for the players: the Melbourne Masters are
on August 16-17, followed by the New Zealand Masters in
Hamilton on August 23-24.

MOTORSPORT
Spanish rider Marc Márquez
is doing it again: with five
MotoGP world champion-
ships to his name, the Honda
rider is top of the 2019 table
after nine rounds. At press
time, the Czech Republic
round had not begun, but
this week’s racing takes place
in Austria, at the Red Bull
Ring in Spielberg. Qualify-
ing is on Saturday (Sky Sport
5, 10.30pm), with the grand prix on Sunday (Sky Sport 5,
8.45pm).
The final round of the all-female Formula 3 W Series will take
place at Brands Hatch, where British driver Jamie Chadwick
will probably be enjoying a champion’s welcome. She is top
of the table, although the competition is fierce. Qualifying is
on Sunday (Sky Sport 7, 10.20pm), with racing on Monday
(Sky Sport 5, 2.30am).
