Where are my keys? Why did I open the fridge? If questions like
these cross your mind lately, you’re not alone: At least 70% of us
struggle with foggy thinking when heat and humidity soar. Luckily,
University of Connecticut researchers say a few simple tweaks
can keep you focused throughout the steamy month of August!
One of the big reasons hot weather makes
you feel fuzzy? The body is working 24/
to keep your core temperature steady—and
that job uses up the blood sugar that your
brain needs to function at its peak. The
good news: University of Virginia research
suggests that giving your blood glucose a
gentle boost—by enjoying two peaches
daily—could sharpen your concentration
and focus by as much as 50%!
W hen summer saps your menta l energ y, get
out of the kitchen and throw some chicken
on the grill. Australian researchers say
enjoying three ser vings of lean meat week ly
can help chase away even stubborn brain
fog and memory lapses in as little as two
weeks. Neurologist Daniel Amen, M.D.,
explains that lean meat is rich in building
blocks the brain needs to make memory-
improving hormones like dopamine.
Getting just two hours of sun exposure
each week can heighten your concentra-
tion, memory and multitasking abilities
by 58%, plus cut your Alzheimer’s disease
risk by 79%, according to new studies.
Neurologist David Perlmutter, M.D.,
explains that sun exposure increases the
brain’s production of a focus-enhancing
compound called glutamate.
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a unique fatty acid
that energizes brain neurons to give you the
clearheaded focus and memory you had 12
years ago—even during brain-draining heat
waves! Bonus: PS prods the brain to release
mood-boosting neurotransmitters that tamp
down heat-triggered irritability for 94% of
women. One with the study-proven dose:

2 cups baby greens
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 Tbs. blue cheese

Belly bloat can cause you to swell two
extra dress sizes. To eliminate the backed-
up toxins and fluids that cause uncomfort-
able bloat, I recommend sipping 4 oz. of
unsweetened cranberry juice (like R.W.
Knudsen Family Organic Just Cranberry,
available in supermarkets) combined
with 28 oz. of water throughout the day.
Cranberries kick the body’s waste-disposal
system into high gear, helping to flush
excess fluids from the system so you can
banish belly bloat fast!
