“flamingle!”

Woma n’s World^ 8/5/19 (^29)
Fancy up a pineapple with
colorful confetti
Save money on flowers by transforming a
pineapple into an unforgettable centerpiece.
Johnson created this fun flourish by glu-
ing multicolored tissue-paper confetti (like
Rainbow Dots Tissue Paper Confetti, $3,
PartyCity.com) directly onto a pineapple.
Once dry, tie a faux rose around the top of
the fruit. Tip: Overlap the confetti circles
slightly to mimic the texture of the pineapple.
Dress a cake with candy
“Store-bought cakes and cupcakes not only
save time, they can be transformed into show-
stopping treats with a little added flair,” notes
Johnson. To dress up this cake, she whipped
up a batch of candy bark to use as a topper.
To do: Melt 1 cup of yellow candy melts and
1 cup of green candy melts according to pack-
age instructions. Pour yellow candy onto a
parchment-lined baking sheet; drizzle the
green over it. Use a fork to swirl the colors
together, then sprinkle with colorful choco-
late candies (like pink and yellow Sixlets, $6
per bag, PartyCity.com). Let cool overnight.
Before your party, break into shards and insert
into the top of a pink iced cake; dot the sides
of the cake with extra candies.
Toast to a good time
with tiki cocktails
Inspired by the tropical atmosphere of the
party, this “flamingo punch” refreshes guests
with hints of pineapple and coconut, plus it
adds a pop of color to your table. To make
each drink, combine 2 oz. of red fruit punch
and 1 oz. each of coconut rum and pineapple
juice in an ice-filled shaker. Strain into a mar-
tini glass, then top with a splash of lemon-
lime soda and garnish with a lime wheel.

Offer up tropical desserts
Stock your treats table with cookies
and cupcakes that fit the “flamingle”
theme! To make the cute treats shown
here: The day before your party, roll
premade pink fondant (available at
craft stores) into snakes and coil into
an S shape. Use melted white and dark
chocolate to add a beak and eyes. Dry
on a wax paper–lined baking sheet and
insert into pink frosted cupcakes. For
the cookies, cut out premade sugar
cookie dough with a pineapple cookie
cutter ($2, TheCookieCutterShop.com)
and decorate with tinted royal icing.

best party!

Order a f lock of
festive f lamingos
The more flamingos at a flamingle, the
better! Stock up on flamingo lawn orna-
ments at the dollar store or order them
at HomeDepot.com ($46 for 12) and
sprinkle them throughout your space.

Keep kids entertained
with fun crafts
Party planner Annaliese Johnson
suggests setting up a craft station
for your smallest guests to make
flamingo-inspired crowns. “Providing
an activity that doubles as a take-
home party favor is a double win,” she
says. Simply glue lacy paper cupcake
wrappers to dollar-store headbands,
then set on a table with rhinestones,
pipe cleaners, beads, craft gems,
pom-poms and glue.
