AN EVOLVED DISCIPLE?Once Confucius took his disciples to a mountain
and pointing towards the world, asked them: If you
had the power, how would you have got the world
rid of this sorrow?
Disciple 1: I would work for upliftment of the 'weak'
and 'oppressed' ones. And suppress the oppressors. I
would maintain the integrity of the world by rightful
laws and order.
Confucius (mumbled): You speak like a soldier.
Disciple 2: I would sensitise people towards the
repercussions of wars i.e. wives being widowed,
children being orphaned; and would spread the
message of non-violence, peace, and harmony.
Confucius: You sound like an orator.
Disciple 3: Master, I have already received the
greatest treasure. I need no other power. I will
spread the true messages and inspirations from my
life to the entire world.
Confucius: “You speak like a sage!”
Verily, it is the last perspective, which is
the characteristic of a true disciple- the one who
truly and fully imbibes the message of his Spiritual
Master. This truth can be aptly formulated into a
remarkable statement as quoted by St. Augustine–
“God was made man (so) that man might become
God.” ||
