The Partners in Mission Food Bank
Board of Directors welcomes Dan Irwin as
Executive Director. He will be taking over
for Sandy Singers,who is retiring after 26
dedicated years with the Food Bank. Dan
has been a Board member for the past eight
years and an active volunteer with food
drives and fundraising activities. He brings
years of experience in leadership and
management in the business environment
and has a deep understanding of the
organization’s mission and values.

  • A Queen’s University law graduate,
    Pamela Cross was recently honoured
    by the Law Society of Ontario with the
    Laura Legge Award for her extraordinary
    achievements as a lawyer, researcher,
    teacher, writer, public speaker, mentor
    and activist and for her leadership in the
    advancement of women’s equality in
    Canada. Through her efforts, countless
    women have gained access to the legal
    system, and the next generation of
    community advocates and lawyers has

  • The Community Foundation for
    Kingston & Area (CFKA) awarded Jimmy
    Hassan its second Community Builder
    Award in recognition of his work promoting
    and celebrating diversity in the community.
    An immigrant from Pakistan, Jimmy is the
    founder of the Diversity Dinner, an annual
    multicultural event; and the Canadian
    Colours Kingston Foundation, which
    works to raise awareness about Canadian
    values and lifestyle. Jimmy’s hard work
    and community building activities have
    made a significant positive change to the

TheUnited Way KFLA has announced
that Scott Harris, Regional Deputy
Commissioner for the Ontario and
Nunavut Region of the Correctional
Service of Canada, will be the 2019 United
Way Campaign Chair in its 78th annual
campaign that kicks off on September 6.
Scott brings many years of volunteer
engagement with the United Way and
looks to build on the momentum generated
by the 2018 chair, Fred Godbile.

  • The Rotary Club of Kingston is pleased
    to announce the recipients of the 2019 Paul
    Harris Fellow Awards that acknowledge
    “Service Above Self”: David Cupido,
    Allan Dunlop, Brenda Hunter, Laurie
    Labrie, Wilf Sorensen and Chris Vilela.
    David Cupido has supported the Boys &
    Girls Club, the Syl Apps and the Cat Fore!
    Kids charity golf tournaments, Dawn
    House and Breast Cancer Action Kingston,
    and has participated in humanitarian
    missions in the Dominican Republic. An
    RMC graduate,Allan Dunlop served for
    over 25 years in the Navy; he set up a
    company called Golden Independence
    to help improve seniors’ quality of life
    and has been an active volunteer with the
    Rotary Club. Brenda Hunter, a former
    teacher and Director of Education at the
    Limestone school board, spent 34 years in
    education; she is a member of the national
    Educational Resource Development
    Initiative and is on the Board of Directors
    of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre; she
    co-chaired the United Way’s Success by Six
    and helped bring Pathways to Education
    to the city. Laurie Labrie is a teacher in the
    Student Services department at La Salle
    Secondary School, voluntarily runs many
