Wilf Sorensen, a Rotary member for nearly
60 years, has been active in environmental
projects; he is spearheading a tree-planting
initiative for the club’s centennial
celebrations in 2021. Cris Vilela is a
mortgage broker and also co-publisher of
the Kingstonist, an online community-driven
news site; best known as the “Make It
Home Kingston guy,” he started @YGKTraffic
and is founding trustee of Awesome

  • Dr. Jacalyn Duffin, historian,
    hematologist, specialist in blood-related
    diseases and retired Queen’s professor,
    was recently inducted into the Canadian
    Medical Hall of Fame for her contributions
    in medical history research and education.
    She also received the Lifetime Achievement
    Award from an American medical history
    society. Hannah Chair in the History of
    Medicine at Queen’s from 1988 to 2017,
    she is also former president of both the
    American Association for the History of
    Medicine and the Canadian Society for
    the History of Medicine. She developed
    methodologies for teaching medical history
    and published eight books and more than
    90 papers on topics including old medical
    practices, miracle healings, history of
    diseases and medical saints. Jacalyn is also
    well-known for her medical testimony that
    the Vatican used to canonize the first

  • The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic
    District School Board has recognized the
    exemplary accomplishments of students
    and community members who consistently
    demonstrate outstanding service. Student
    Volunteer Recognition Awards went to
    Sarah Minakerand Stella Sutton for their
    volunteer time at J.J. O’Neill Catholic
    School in Napanee. The Excellence in
    Supporting Catholic Education Award was
    given to Paula Johnson-Young, the youth
    worker at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
    School. Teacher of the Year Award went to
    Colleen Earle, who teaches at St. Francis
    of Assisi. Archbishop O’Brien, Archbishop
    Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Kingston,
    was honoured with the Contribution to
