Chefs Cooking Demos. The cooking
demos are presented by Kingston’s best
chefs sharing their knowledge and passion
for local food with the public. There will
be a different chef every Saturday talking
about what’s in season and demonstrating
a simple local food recipe.

JULY 13, AUGUST 10, SEPTEMBER 14:
Queen’s Observatory Open Houses.On
the second Saturday of each month, come
listen to a professional astronomer share
the wonders of our universe. Public open
houses are an exciting way for the Queen’s
Observatory to give back to the Kingston
community by sharing its knowledge and
facilities with inquiring minds young and
old. Guests are invited to experience the
night sky, from the smallest planets to the
largest galaxies, using the 14-inch dome
telescope. The outdoor observing deck
also provides telescopes and high-power
binoculars to tour Kingston’s night sky.
LOCATION: Ellis Hall Auditorium,

JULY 14, AUGUST 11, SEPTEMBER 8:
Repair Café Kingston. Repair Cafés are
all about repairing things together. You’ll
find tools, materials and knowledgeable
folks (“fixers”) to enable you to make
repairs on many things: clothes, furniture,
electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery,
electronics, toys, jewellery and more.
Bring your broken items and start making
repairs together with the specialists. A
child care area and free coffee and treats
are available. The Repair Café supports
Kingston’s efforts to be the most
sustainable city in Canada.
LOCATION: Basement of the Kingston
Unitarian Fellowship, 206 Concession
Street.
TIME: 2 to 4:30 p.m. every second Sunday
of the month.

JULY 17: Indigo Dye Workshop — For the
Love of Blue. This workshop with Bethany
Garner is designed to share multiple
techniques that stimulate creativity and
result in a beautiful collection of hand-
dyed fabric samples for you to work with
after class. Learn about fabric preparation,
stitching, clamping and wrapping
techniques. The workshop focuses on
easy-to-use-at-home studio bucket dyeing
methods that everyone can use and take
away for further exploration as they
develop their new skills.

JULY 19: Healthy Parks Healthy People.
Spending as little as 30 minutes per day
in nature can have a variety of positive
health benefits. Mental, physical and
emotional well-being can be significantly
improved simply by spending time in
nature. Help Frontenac Park celebrate
Healthy Parks Healthy People on July 19
by coming for a paddle, hike, swim, picnic
or other outdoor activity for free that day.

JULY 28: Taste of Kingston Food Festival.
This unique event brings the community
together in a family-friendly environment
to savour the many flavours that Kingston
has to offer, while raising funds for
Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps for children
and youth with type 1 diabetes in Ontario.
Enjoy live music, cooking demos, kids’
activities and fresh local food.

Epilepsy Peer Support Group. Join this
group on the last Wednesday of every
month for informal, moderated sessions
in support of those affected by epilepsy.

SEPTEMBER: Cantabile Choirs of
Kingston Open Rehearsals. Interested
singers are invited to visit the Primary,
Junior, Children’s and Teen Choir
rehearsals to do some singing and learn
about the wonderful experience of singing
with Cantabile. Children’s Choir (ages 10
to 12) sing on September 9 and 11, 4:15 to
5:15 p.m.; Young Men’s Chorus (changed
voices), on September 10, 3:30 to 4:45, and
September 12, 4:30 to 5:45; Young Women’s
Choir (high school), September 10, 4:30 to
5:45, and September 12, 3:30 to 4:45; Junior
Choir (ages 8 and 9), September 20, 4:15 to
5:15; and Primary Choir (ages 6 and 7),

SEPTEMBER 3, 19: Kingston Heirloom
Quilters. Are you a quilter looking for
an opportunity to enrich your skills and
enjoy the company of fellow quilters? The
Kingston Heirloom Quilters usually meet
twice monthly, the first Tuesday and the
third Thursday of the month, from
September through June (check website
to confirm dates). Activities include group
projects, workshops, demonstrations and
guest speakers. Membership is open to
both experienced and learning quilters,
and visitors are welcome to the meetings;
bring a lunch and enjoy a friendly, relaxed
group.

Connection. This group normally meets
on the first working Monday of each
month from September to June. Through
fundraising for the Stephen Lewis
Foundation Grandmother to Grandmother
Campaign and Help Lesotho, the group
is committed to helping grandmothers in
Africa who are raising their orphaned
