well. For a panoramic view, go to Trou aux Cerfs,
the only alive, and thankfully dormant, volcano
site in Mauritius at a height of 600 m. Do as the
locals do, and jog around the stretch, soaking
in the breathtaking vistas surrounding you. If
you’re looking for a little more of an adrenaline
rush, visit the La Vallee Des Couleurs (Valley of
Colours) Nature Park, which is a perfect blend
of natural beauty and adventure. After you’ve
soaked in the natural wonder of the 23-coloured
earth (multi-hued soil formed from volcanic
ash) and the numerous waterfalls in the park,
head to the third-longest zipline in the world,
which not only offers an aerial view of the park,
but also an experience that comes closest to
flying like a bird. The park also has a suspended
bridge, which works as a thrilling skywalk. You
could also hike across the park and swim at one
of the private waterfalls. If you don’t feel up to
exploring it on foot, opt for a self-driven quad
bike or jeep tour. Set aside at least half a day to
see everything that the park has to offer.
Since a majority of the Mauritian population
is Hindu, the country has a few religious spots

that have turned into tourist attractions as well.
You could visit the sacred crater lake of Ganga
Talao with its temples and gigantic statues of
Lord Shiva and Ma Durga, during your South
Island tour.

If you’d rather be in the glistening blue waters
of Mauritius than admire it from the shores,
you have plenty of water sports and activities
to choose from. Head to Ile aux Cerfs, a leisure
island near the east coast of Mauritius, which
is accessible via a jetty ride. Once there, try
parasailing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and
speed boat rides. Or try your hand at golf while
you enjoy an uninterrupted view of the Indian
Ocean. Snorkelling is another popular activity
in Mauritius. Experience being surrounded by
beautiful corals and colourful fish swimming
around them! Most beach resorts stock
snorkelling gear, but if you want to go deeper,
sign up for a seabed walking tour. Head to Belle
Mare, where a short boat ride takes you to the
spot where you can experience this. Non-
swimmers, fret not, this activity is for you too.
A giant helmet is placed on your head before
you go underwater, which is connected to
