inding the right combination of
brackets, bolts, pulleys, and front-
drive accessories is challenging
for older cars. We’ve done the swap-
meet scrounging, the junkyard crawl,
and we’ve even prowled through our
parts-hoarding friends’ stashes to find
the right stuff. Then there is the joy of
measuring for proper belt fit and trying
to explain what you need at the parts-
store counter. We were dreading the

The big-block Chevy’s belt-driven
accessories previously consisted of a
cast-iron water pump and an externally
regulated alternator. With plans to add air
conditioning, we wanted a simple solution
to our accessory drive system that included
upgrades in performance and style.
