October Sunoco Young Racers’ Club Winner:

Shannon Milnickel

Congratulations to Shannon Milnickel, our Sunoco Race Fuels Young Racers’
Club winner for the month of October!

Shannon Milnickle will receive 55 gallons of fuel and a 5-gallon utility jug
from Sunoco. He will also appear in the October 2019 issue of Car Craft. Take a
few moments to read about his journey below:

My name is Shannon Milnickel. I’m 18 and from Dayton, Ohio. This is my
1969 Pontiac Custom S. This car sat outside of my town abandoned for years
getting no care or attention. I wrote letter aft er letter, asking everyone in town
who owned it without any response for a long time. Finally, I got a call asking
if I was still interested in the car. I found out it was mine for $400. The owner
even gave me a 400 block, a set of big-valve heads, a box of bolts, and a TH350.
I immediately got to work, starting from the inside out. The carpeting and
interior are in all black; it really cleaned up nicely.

I spent my junior and senior years of high school working hard to earn
enough do the machine work. I found the camshaft and valve springs in my
buddy’s barn, and got them for free. The big cam called for a 3,500-stall
converter. The motor has a 750cfm Quadrajet that makes a beautiful noise when
the secondaries open up.

I’ve made a few mistakes along the way, however, I have learned a lot and
made a lot of new friends building this car. I even pissed off the school librarian
when I decided to print the entire service manual on the school printer. I’m
excited for the future of this car and can’t wait to take it to the track.
