So we have (or should have) heard the name
Norrie Kerr – and if so, then we must also be
able to connect him to his green race-prepared
Vespa Smallframe, as there are numerous
images of man and machine together, one
complementing the other.
But how many of us know exactly what this
little Vespa road rocket actually is, the reason
for its creation, or the secrets that lie beneath
its ‘cute’ facade?


THE BACKGROUND
At the very early, very cold, but now traditional
scooterist season opener, which is the superb
‘Scooter World’ (part of the Carole NashClassic
Bike GuideWinter Classic in Newark, held on
the first weekend after the new year), I was
lucky enough to be able to cover and witness
the handing over of Norrie’s ex-racing scooter
to its new custodian, Mark Green (seeClassic
Scooteristissue 126 for full article).
To be totally honest, I, like many, would be
able to recognise the green Smallframe; I could
tell you it's a Vespa SS and that it’s water-
