GEDmatch
Rolls Out
New Interface
THE VOLUNTEERRUN WEBSITE GEDmatch
free third-party tools for genetic genealogy, has
moved to a new platform called Genesis. This
platform makes it easier for users to compare
the DNA test results they upload from diff erent
companies. Users don’t need to re-upload their
tests or create new accounts; all GEDmatch kits
migrated to Genesis.
The new site’s design is easier to navigate, and
users have access to new tools. Edit your kits
more quickly and easily by clicking the pencil
icon. A handy key indicates, at a glance, each
kit’s status.
As with the old GEDmatch site, you can still
access Tier 1 tools for a one-time (or monthly)
$10 donation. These tools can really help your
analysis—particularly the enhanced One-to-
Many DNA Comparison tool, which allows for
more specifi city than the free version.
23ANDME ADDS DIABETES REPORT
In March 2019, leading DNA testing company 23andMe
<www.23andme.com> announced the addition of a Type 2 diabetes
“polygenic score” to its growing list of Health Predisposition reports
provided to those who purchase the Health + Ancestry autosomal test.
The diabetes result, which will be presented as a score, assesses the
test taker’s risk for developing Type 2 diabetes based purely on genet-
ics (i.e., the score doesn’t consider lifestyle or environmental factors).
Given the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes, the company expects this
score will impact more test takers than many of the other Health Pre-
disposition reports. For more information, see <www.23andme.com/
topics/health-predispositions/type-2-diabetes>.
