Hong Kong police fired teargas and rubber bullets at protesters yesterday after fresh clashes during a
citywide strike which caused transport chaos across the city.
More than 27,000 people were due to participate in the strike, according to organisers, as thousands of
demonstrators fanned out across seven districts and some groups besieged police stations. Hong Kong’s
Beijing-backed leader Carrie Lam warned that the city is on the verge of an “extremely dangerous situation”
