Pro Ferrum is a brand-new super fluid (not a traditional oil) that serves as both a
cleaner and lubricant for your gun. It promises unrivalled cleaning performance and a
host of unique properties. Unlike traditional oils, it encapsulates water, emulsifying it
and removing it from surfaces, removes lead by penetration (not acidic erosion) and
leaves an ultra-fine coating for ultimate protection. Suitable for both shotguns and
rifles, Pro Ferrum dissolves the initial formation of rust,
replacing it with an anti-corrosive layer. In seconds, it
removes fouling and baked-on residues. It
even neutralises acid from fingerprints,
while still being gentle to skin (Dermatest certified).
Its ultra-fine formula is designed to adhere to surfaces,
leaving a protective film inside and outside of barrels and on
actions. It is completely safe to be used on wood and other
materials without damaging or affecting their finish. The
lubricating properties of Pro Ferrum are such that it doesn’t
bind with grit or sand to form abrasive compounds, which
could damage the workings of a gun, and it will break down
old oil and grease deposits with ease.
Give it a try when you next run out of your old oil,
and see if this wonder fluid can improve and simplify
your cleaning regime.

Gun cleaning super fluid!

The Pro Eco wad by Eley is a revolution in the
cartridge market, offering 100% biodegradability
without sacrificing performance. It houses the
first 100% water-soluble wad, which is made
from non-toxic materials of vegetal origin and
has achieved the ASTM non-toxicity standard

  • it is 100% compostable and dissolves into an
organic fertilizer, leaving no trace of plastic in the
ground. So, not only does this cartridge do away
with the use of plastic in its wad,
    it actually benefits the ground
    once broken down, leaving
    no visual impact, no residue,
    and enriching the soil
    once degraded.
    So, enough about its
    jaw-dropping ecological merits,
what we all want to know is...
how does it shoot?! According to
its makers, ballistic tests done for the
28g and 32g steel shells have shown that not
only is the behaviour of the wad as good as you
would expect from a plastic wad, but the pattern
was actually better. Also, the mechanical
properties of the wad are enhanced because of
its elasticity, meaning a top speed up to 15%
faster than a regular steel load has been
observed. Another benefit of the Pro Eco wad is
that it maintains consistency when exposed to
high variations of temperatures and humidity

    • the influence of these factors on the powders
and primers is diminished by the wad, providing
better performance compared to shells loaded
with a plastic wad. There are pages of figures
derived from tests done on this cartridge in
various conditions, but all you really need to
know is that when in storage, or exposed to hot,
cold, humid or dry weather, this cartridge works
well, performing either on par or better than the
same load with a plastic wad.
      The cartridge is currently available
in 32g for game shooting and 28g
for clay shooting. Jess Dutton, a
      freelance clay shooting
      instructor and keen game shot,
took the 28g cartridges out for a
test run on the clays and had the
following to say about them: “I
love the idea of the biodegradable
wadding! I put it to the test and left it in
water overnight (just to speed up the process),
and by the morning it was just a load of gloop.
“The cartridge also holds the pattern very
well. On the pattern plate, I clearly saw a good
strong pattern. I did find that the recoil is quite
heavy, though, and I have a fairly heavy gun; the
cartridges I used were 28g No.7s, so perhaps
they will develop a smaller load for clays in the
near future. Steel will kick more than lead, a
contributing factor being that the barrel/muzzle

pressure is much lower for lead than steel. To
sum up, I think it’s great that they are developing
eco-friendly cartridges, as we all have a
responsibility to look after the world we live in.
Personally, I would like to try a 21g for clay
shooting, where you shoot higher volumes of
cartridges, and see if the recoil was less. This is
definitely a cartridge I would like to see more of
in the future.”
