DAISY RED RYDER
and forward. There are seven steps to the
ratchet system that end in a distinct click. All
this is after you have used the manual safety
catch, of course.
PERFECT PLINKING PERFORMANCE
The sights are as simple as the gun – a fixed
front and a wedged elevation rear sight with no
windage adjustment, perfect for the gun. Over
the chronograph, the gun was amazingly
consistent with the Daisy BBs, and I mean
AMAZINGLY – 250 feet per second was the
number that kept coming up. It didn’t vary more
than 3fps, 248 to 251. It’s not the 350 billed in
the blurb, but I’d settle for the consistentcy any
day. The Red Ryder is a maximum 10-metre
range gun anyway, and has always been. Its
sweet spot is 5m, and the power was 0.7 ft.lbs.
making it a perfect plinker.
VERDICT
The instruction leaflet is superb. It tells you
how to build three types of safe backstop,
even the cardboard box, indoor BB catcher.
They use magazines to fill the back of the two
foot square (60mm x 600mm) front, but I
used thick carpet in the back of the one I built.
The gun is ambidextrous and I found it easy
to shoot, even as a big guy. We cannot forget
that it’s a BB gun, so EN166 wrap-around
safety glasses are absolutely essential. The
Red Ryder is a classic BB gun that will help to
develop safe gun handling among younger
and new shooters. It’s a lot of fun to shoot,
and the price surprised me too – at under 50
quid, that’s a real top value gun.

I like the instructions,
very clear.
It’s a simple rear sight,
but it works.
The sights are as
simple as the rifle.
The cardboard tube of 350
BBs does the business.
The underlever cocking
action incorporates a 7-step
ratchet system.
A simple trigger, a
sturdy cocking lever,
and a saddle ring make
quite a combination.
