When was the club founded?
The club was founded in 1947.

What does your club offer new members?
We offer a warm welcome and introduction to
existing members. New members complete a
questionnaire regarding their experience and
what they would like to gain from attending
the club meetings. Where relevant, a new
inexperienced member can be buddied up
with an experienced member with the same
camera make. New members are invited
to attend the full programme offered on
Tuesday evenings from September to May,
and they also have access to our weekly
outdoor programme. Many new members join
at this time to get to know existing members
and learn new skills prior to the start of the
new season. We do not charge visitors who
wish to attend the summer programme. We

also invite new members to come along to
our annual weekend away and the numerous
photo walks on offer. New members
are invited to enter our PDI and print
competitions in a beginner’s section. External
judges tend to spend more time with their
feedback in a way that encourages and
motivates new members.

Describe a typical club meeting.
Members arrive at 7.45pm for an 8pm start.
Tea/coffee and biscuits are offered on arrival.
The room will already be set up by committee
members. There will be a break mid-evening
for more refreshments and time for a chat.
A typical evening will have a presenter and a
workshop/competition, and finishes at 10pm.
Our chairman will kick off the evening with
notices and then introduce the speaker,
judge or workshop leader.

5 Frog for Dinner by
Carol Green An image
which perfectly
demonstrates that
wildlife can be brutal at
times, but an effective
composition nonetheless.

1 The Wellington,
Strand, London by
Andy Holloway A great
character study, there’s
plenty to look at and
take in with this
interesting scene.

2 Vicky by William
Glen Fantastic eye
contact and simple
framing make this a
compelling portrait which
seems to capture the
subject’s personality.

6 Westminster by Bill
Edwards A very familiar
scene which has been
expertly executed for a
simple yet striking
urban landscape.
