vehicles, growth of the aerospace industry, and 3D printing
technologies may have a significant impact – one way or
another – in the time to come on demand of cutting tools,”
says Krishnan.
“Customers are looking for customised solutions to reduce
their cutting time and for this reason we develop specialised
solutions. We have launched new range of turning inserts
T9200 series with strengthened wear resistance due to thick
Al2O3 coating. Customers also seek to reduce operating costs
and our new applications should help,” says Shah.
Recession affects everything. “However, these are evergreen
operations and will continue to be required in all industry seg-
ments for years to come. The risk is for individual companies
who do not upgrade their product in line with market require-
ment or in terms of cost per component, says Kumthekar.
There are advancements in turning and milling tools. It would
helps vendors to keep a sharp eye on customers to know what
best to offer.

TOUGH AS THEY COME
Walter Tools has innovative products for machining ISO
S materials with difficult cutting properties such as high
temperature alloys, titanium alloys, cobalt-based alloys and
nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconel 718). The BLAXX M3255
indexable milling cutter called Titan in titanium, MD133
Supreme is specially designed for dynamic milling - this tool
has chip breaking guarantee even for 5XD.
The Tiger.tec silver grade for ISO S machining like WSP45S,
WSM35S and WSM45X come with different coating and
protect indexable inserts against wear at high temperatures.
The M3255: Titanium components are not only hard
but also poor conductors of heat, making them difficult to
machine. Cutting rates of up to 95% pose an additional
challenge. The Walter BLAXX M3255 porcupine milling cutter
achieves outstanding results due to a new design. A special
front insert with an axial limit stop, combined with the new
geometry of the tangentially arranged indexable inserts,
allows for an "overlapping" arrangement, with more inserts
per row of teeth and more rows of teeth per milling cutter.
The "continuous" cutting edge this creates cuts into the
workpiece virtually seamlessly. Another new feature is that
each of the indexable inserts is supplied individually with
coolant. This is particularly advantageous when it comes to
slot milling, which is why the M3255 can also perform slot
milling operations with larger diameters.
The Walter BLAXX M3255 is well suited to shoulder milling,
contour milling and pocket milling titanium alloys. The L65T
geometry is available in two different grades: WSM45X for
high machining volume and long tool life, and WSP45S for
a high level of process reliability, even in difficult conditions.
Their sharp cutting edges guarantee very high machining
volumes despite only using low cutting forces. The main
benefits are short machining times, an incredible metal
removal rate and a high level of process reliability.
