DECISIVE TOOL FOR MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE

Jayashree Kini Mendes

IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THE AUTOMOTIVE
sector is seeing its lowest sales this year. But
there's a double whammy in store. The govern-
ment is pushing two-, three-, and four-wheeler
manufacturers to consider electric by 2025. While
there's general vehement protest, in the long term
they will have to toe the line.
Although there's a need to adopt EVs, it would
help if the government pushed its cause through
effective aid and hand-holding the OEMs and auto
component makers. Instead, there seems to be a
kind of diktat and that is not going down well.
It's far easier for large players to switch to newer
technologies. They have the wherewithal to invest,
but disruptions such as these will affect small man-
ufacturers.
In our cover story, Anjali Singh and Deepak Cho-
pra reveal how the company is moving rapidly to
adopt advanced technologies so that it can start
manufacturing components for EVs, going forward.
Perhaps it's one of the rare Indian companies
that have constantly strived to bring in latest tech-
nologies and innovations into the country through
global tie-ups and takeovers. Having inherited the
company from her father and founder, Deep C
Anand, Singh has not rested on her laurels, but in-
stead raised the bar and ventured into territory that
would seem quite foreign to most Indian players.
The Anand Group has set a benchmark for
Indian auto component makers and Tier II and
III players.
