Swell with pride
I want to thank THE WEEK for the cover story on
Chandrayaan-2. It made for a fascinating and inform-
ative read (‘Reaching for the moon’, July 21). I was
overwhelmed seeing Chandrayaan-2 soaring into the
sky. With this achievement, the Indian Space Research
Organisation has made every Indian’s heart swell with
pride.
I liked the interview of ISRO chairman K. Sivan and
the story on Antrix Corporation Ltd. The graphics in
the cover story was awesome.
ISRO is what it is today because of the rich con-
tributions made by Vikram Sarabhai, A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam and other scientists there.
I want to thank all the women scientists who led
India’s second moon mission. As a regular reader and
an ardent fan of THE WEEK for many years, let me
congratulate you for bringing out such a wonderful
issue.
I look forward to reading more such cover stories,
week after week.
Kavitha Muchandi,

INTERVIEW: K. SIVAN, CHAIRMAN, ISRO

CHANDRAYAAN-
ACE IN SPACE

Your cover story on India’s
second lunar mission was
truly heart-warming and
refreshing. It is for certain
that the historic launch
will put India into the elite
club of countries that have
soft landed on the moon.
The scientists of ISRO
are synonymous with
hard work, perseverance
and team spirit. All of
them deserve our hearti-
est congratulations.
The monumental
achievement has yet again
conclusively demonstrat-
ed to the whole world that
our scientists are second
to none, and that their
glorious achievements
can surpass even the
heights of the limitless
skies. The pathbreak-
ing success of the ISRO
scientists needs to serve
as a morale-booster and
a source of inspiration for
our youth.
India has truly emerged
as a space superpower.
B. Suresh Kumar,
On email.

It is particularly gratifying
to know that three women
scientists were at the helm
of Chandrayaan-2. The
cover story paid, quite
appropriately, rich tribute
to Sarabhai, the father of
Indian space programme.

Mallika Sarabhai’s emo-
tion-choked reminiscences
of the last days of her father
were touching.
Raveendranath A.,
On email.

Despite lacking the
wherewithal and technol-
ogy at par with a country
like the US, our scientists
were not deterred from
dreaming and preparing
for Chandrayaan-2. This
is indicative of the resolve
and determination to be
not left behind in the space
programme and research.
Way to go!
K.V. Raghuram,
On email.

Total disaster
It is always better to allow
the single largest party to
form a government in a
state. By not doing so, you
leave the door open for
malcontent leaders to cre-
ate issues in the long run
(‘Relentless rebellion’, July
21). It was unfortunate that
the Congress and the JD(S)
were fighting a desperate
battle on two fronts—trying
to bring back the rebels,
while also protecting the
existing group, members of
which were ready to scoot
off any time.
Most MLAs who
