Glimpse – July 2019

(Ann) #1

I

had a lot of reasons for not
travelling and you must be having
the same but once I started off there
was no looking backing. I agree,
people based out in India can’t really quit
their jobs to travel like many foreigners
but you can definitely take out time and
a lot of reasons to hold you back. In
most of my write ups the reason I insist
people for travelling is because travel

teaches you a lot, it teaches you to be
content and comfortable at being alone.
Travel teaches patience. Emotional
energy is limited and is better saved for
moments that matter; it teaches you how
to express yourself and to worry less
about being offensive or stepping on
toes, it teaches acceptance of different
lifestyles and a greater appreciation for
family and friends, it teaches you how
to overcome language barriers and still
effectively communicate, last but not the
least traveling isn’t what’s important,
it’s how it changes you that matters. It
teaches you what matters in life and
what doesn’t.
There could be unlimited reasons for
not been able to travel , but I have been
a travel bug all my life and there is a
constant urge to travel and people need
to convince themselves that this is the
perfect time to travel otherwise the right
time is never going to hit you , people
often say that timing is everything.
Relationships, projects, ideas- everything
has its time. It’s important to be in synch
with these natural rhythms of life. But
don’t let yourself be fooled. It’s all too
easy to fall into the trap of waiting
around for something- an opportunity,
job, income level, an imagined sense
of security- that may take years to
materialize, if ever. That’s why so often,
the crazy choice makes the most sense.
If you want to travel now, but you’re
scared to go it alone, you’ll be able to

find excuses everywhere if you look for
them. You’ll find ways to say you can’t do
it right now: you’re not ready; your job,
friends, or fears are holding you back;
you have too many obligations. Basically,
these excuses mean you’ll never get on
the road, as at every stage of your life,
you’ll be able to find a reason why it
can’t work for you. It will never be the
right time to travel — especially as a
woman.

#it’s time to settle down
Basic problem faced every time I come
back from my travel. It starts with ‘Don’t
you want to settle and have a family of
your own’? And my basic relation is
with the question, ‘Why is traveling and
having a family mutually exclusive in this
day and age? Families travel all the time,
and some even full-time.
I do believe in relationship and
marriage but I can’t give rest to my
travel and travel writing, I know
relationship gives happiness but as I
sit in the lap of mighty mountains in
Himachal I think nothing is happier than
this and I enjoy such moments every
now and then. I am quite sure rather
than quitting my Mr. Right would say
‘May I join you’.

#Parents freaking out
Punjabi parents be like, ’Haaye haaye
Kasol Jana hai’, othe drugs hunde ne!
Well, if you are a traveller, no matter
