"A day of rain can potentially soak
your plans and temporarily dampen
your mood, and once your plan is
cancelled or delayed it obviously affects

who enjoy rainy season or rainy day
more than they enjoy a sunny day.
"I love rainy weather it makes me

"I am the opposite and always have
been. I strongly prefer cloudy days
with no sun for days on end and I love
night-time and dislike daylight. This
time of the year and through the winter,
I am happier, exercise more, and I want
to be awake more" said Rini Kaushal, a

Geeta Sharma, a psychologist advises
that we can and should take proactive
steps to strengthen our system against
weather driven mood changes. "We
encourage people to take charge of their
feelings one can always help himself by
putting a little sunshine in his own step”.
"Do things that make you feel good,
like watching a comedy movie, spending
more time with loved ones, listening to
uplifting music or reading a good novel.
Look at pictures from a vacation that
brings back the old good memory that

might cherish you throughout your life”.
You may not be able to will the sun to
break through overcast skies, but you
can empower yourself to break through
an emotional cloud......

PRACTICAL WAYS TO AVOID SAD
Exercise: A regular exercise routine can
release endorphins and leave us feeling
happier.
Go outside: Try to go outside in the
daylight whenever possible – it doesn't
need to be for a long time, even half an
hour can make a difference.
Fun: If you are affected by SAD, you
should dedicate a set amount of time
every day to do something fun that
you enjoy. Whether it is simply
reading a book, going for a run or
looking after your garden, make
sure you have time set aside to have
fun and move around.

depression, lack of energy, increased
need for sleep, a craving for sweets
