survivors on the brink of oppor-
tunity. With new customs, a new
language, a new outlook, nothing
was impossible. Lives can be rebuilt
through hard work, hope and an
abundance of love, even amidst
heartache, lack and want. It was
a complex dish of circumstances.
Our plates were full.

My heart is indeed a revolutionary
one. My curiosity, my passion to
discover early on who I was and
where I fit in drove me into the
arms of the love of my life. I was
tenderly embraced by a perfectly
shaped body. My guitar saved me
and loved me through more chal-
lenges than I care to remember.
The art of writing was my sal-
vation, a life raft when I felt powerless against the
current. The kid who came home to an empty house
took up the guitar for companionship, a means to
express feelings, beliefs and longings. Eventually, I
became the entertainment for all my parents’ get-to-
gethers. Thanks to this often-times embarrassing
experience, I learned to love an audience.

Writing music has seen me through the toughest
times, the most unbearable heartbreaks, inspiring the
best Tequila Sundays I’ve ever had! My dream was to
be a songwriter and vocalist, showcasing my original
music. I still write, but as we all know there’s only
one Gloria Estefan, and it’s definitely not me. My
songs have been sung and recorded by others, even
some in different languages, but the stage still calls
me like an unrequited lover, whose lure I can’t help
chasing.

You may recall one of John Lennon’s famous lines,
“Life is what happens while you are busy making
other plans.” No greater words have ever been said!
