Paterno (2018)
SKY ATLANTIC, 10.00PM ★★★

 The Penn State abuse scandal,
which saw the college’s American
football assistant coach Jerry
Sandusky jailed for more than 40
counts of child sex abuse, is given the
biopic treatment. It concentrates on
the team’s celebrated head coach Joe
Paterno (Al Pacino), and has one main
question: how much did Paterno, who
was sacked after Sandusky’s conviction
and died a week later, know?

The Hangover (2009)
ITV2, 9.00PM ★★★

 Dumb comedies never go out of
fashion; the proof is this wildly
successful tale of a quartet (Bradley
Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis
and Justin Bartha) on a stag do in Las
Vegas. They end up with a hangover so
bad that none of the groomsmen can
remember how or when they lost the
groom (Bartha), or why Stu (Helms)
has gained a stripper wife. The gags
come thick, fast and childish.

 Nick Cassavetes’s lively youth-crime
film, starring Bruce Willis, Sharon
Stone and Justin Timberlake, follows
three fateful days when the lives of a
group of Californian teenagers start
to spiral out of control. It is based on
the true story of a kidnapping and
murder, but lacks focus. The cast offer
strong performances, including a
convincing turn from Timberlake as
a thug with a conscience.
