In brief

World Cup fraud charge

Swiss prosecutors have

charged former members of

the German football

federation (DFB) and a

former Fifa official with

fraud over a £6.2 million

payment before the 2006

World Cup in Germany.

Former DFB president Theo

Zwanziger, its general

secretary Horst R Schmidt

and former Fifa general

secretary Urs Linsi are

accused of jointly

committing fraud, while

Wolfgang Niersbach –

Zwanziger’s successor as

DFB president – is charged
with being complicit in
fraud. Proceedings against
Franz Beckenbauer, who
headed the 2006 World Cup
organizing committee, will
be conducted separately
because of his health issues.

Wilson to Bournemouth
Liverpool winger Harry
Wilson has joined
Bournemouth on a season-
long loan. The 22-year-old
had previous loan spells at
Crewe, Hull and Derby.
Fulham have taken
midfielder Harry Arter on

loan from Bournemouth.
The 29-year-old – Fulham
manager Scott Parker’s
brother-in-law – has an
option to make the move
permanent next summer.
Wolves have signed
Azerbaijan striker Renat
Dadashov, 20, on a four-year
contract. West Ham have
recruited 18-year-old
centre-back Goncalo Cardosa
from Boavista on a five-year
contract for £2.7 million.
Former Southampton and
Crystal Palace midfielder
Jason Puncheon has joined
Pafos in Cyprus.

Everton plan

deadline-day

move for Zaha

By Jason Burt

and Chris Bascombe

Everton will push to sign Crystal

Palace’s Wilfried Zaha up until

tomorrow’s 5pm transfer deadline,

despite having an improved bid

rejected.

The Merseyside club have also

had another bid for Abdoulaye

Doucoure turned down by Watford,

who told their Premier League

rivals they are wasting their time

because the midfielder will not be

sold in the window.

Having had a £32 million offer

for Doucoure rebuffed, Everton

made a £40 million bid for the
French midfielder and could, as
with Zaha and despite Watford’s
stance, come back with an im-
proved offer.
Everton have had more success
in their pursuit of a right-back and a
deal has been agreed with Monaco
to take French World Cup winner
Djibril Sidibe on loan for the season
with an option to buy. The 27-year-
old, who has a history of injuries,
will undergo a medical today and
will provide competition for
Seamus Coleman.
The latest bid for Zaha, 26, is not
thought to be significantly more
than the £52 million Palace rejected
last month, but may involve a player
as part of the overall package.
Everton know that Palace want a
striker and could have included
Cenk Tosun, who is not wanted by
head coach Marco Silva, in their
offer.
Zaha has made it clear he wants

to leave Palace and, after an offer
from Arsenal was rejected, he is
keen to move to Goodison Park. It
would still be a surprise if Palace let
him leave as there is little time to
sign a replacement and they have
already sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to
Manchester United for £50 million.

Even if Zaha is not sold this week
he will push for a move until the
window closes in Europe. Mean-
while, Everton’s £25 million striker,
Moise Kean, insists racism did not
force him out of Italian football.
The 19-year-old took on the rac-
ists when scoring for Juventus in

their 2-0 win at Cagliari in April,
reacting to the jeers of home fans.
That provoked controversy when
team-mate Leonardo Bonucci sug-
gested Kean was partially responsi-
ble for the crowd’s reaction.
Kean revealed Bonucci was sorry
for his comments, saying: “I spoke
with him later and he apologised.
He said he was wrong and didn’t
know what he was talking about.”
The Italy international insisted
his exit from Turin was unrelated to
that episode. He says he rejected an
offer to stay in Italy because he
wanted to play in England.
“No, there is no connection.
Absolutely not. I like Everton and
the Premier League. This is why I
am here,” said Kean. “Everton, like
me, is looking to the future.”
Everton fans have prepared a
banner to welcome the 19-year-old
and congratulate him on his
courage in taking on the offenders.
“It’s beautiful because racism is
horrendous and we have to fight
against the racists,” said Kean.
Kean added that he gave up
Champions League football
because he believed he could expe-
rience it at Everton. “I met [sport-
ing director] Marcel [Brands] first. I
like his ideas.
“I spoke to Cristiano [Ronaldo]
but I knew enough on my own. To
follow my dreams and work hard –
that is what Cristiano told me.
“It is the ambition of any player
to bring his team to the Champions
League. I want to bring Everton
into the Champions League.”

Lukaku misses United training

By James Ducker

The Romelu Lukaku transfer

saga took another twist yes-

terday, with the Manchester

United striker spending a

second successive day with

Anderlecht as he pushes for a

move from Old Trafford.

Inter Milan are the front-

runners to sign Lukaku after

the collapse of a proposed

swap deal with Juventus

striker Paulo Dybala, but it

remains to be seen if the Ital-

ian club can get near United’s

£80 million-plus valuation.

Sources in Milan have sug-

gested Lukaku’s agent, Fed-

erico Pastorello, will present

a new offer to United in Lon-

don today but that seems

unlikely to exceed £65 mil-

lion, even if it would repre-

sent a significant increase on
the £54 million bid that Inter
had rejected last month.
Juventus are not thought
to have given up hope of
signing Lukaku, despite
United backing away from a
swap with Dybala over the
Argentine’s wage demands
and agents’ fees.
Lukaku has been left
increasingly frustrated, with
his future in limbo, and the
sight of the Belgium striker
training with Anderlecht for
a second day has served only
to add to the confusion. Unit-
ed’s explanation for Lukaku
being at his former club’s
training base near Brussels
on Monday was that the
player, like his team-mates,
was on a day off but it was
indicated that he was
expected to report back in at

Carrington yesterday. How-
ever, Lukaku remained in
Belgium and was again pic-
tured training at the Neer-
pede complex with Mo
Ouahbi, the Anderlecht
youth-team coach. United
have refused to comment
when asked if Lukaku had
permission to be in Belgium
on either day. Lukaku’s rep-
resentatives were also refus-
ing to comment.
Lukaku has missed all six
of United’s pre-season
games, with his absence put
down to an ankle injury, but
the apparent problem has
not prevented him from
training with Anderlecht’s
under-18s.
Relations between Lukaku
and manager Ole Gunnar
Solskjaer have become in-
creasingly strained.
