JOAN and Jack Bare might be
Britain’s longest-married
couple after celebrating their
80th wedding anniversary.
The two centenarians have
not spent a night apart since
Jack came home from the war.
Joan, 100, and Jack, 102, now
share an apartment in their care
home in Codsall, Staffs, after
both had suffered falls.
Their daughter Gill Skelton,
75, said: “Mum and Dad got
married just a month before the
war broke out and Dad was
initially posted to Portsmouth.
“Mum was so worried about
him that I don’t think they ever
wanted to be apart after that.
“Even earlier this year when
they both had a fall, they only
agreed that they would go into
a home where they could be
together. They won’t be parted.”
Originally from Kendal,
Cumbria, Jack and Joan
married on August 3, 1939.
Jack served in the Royal
Engineers and later designed
and made the radar for Donald
Campbell’s Bluebird
used in his attempt
to break the water
speed record.
They have two
granddaughters and
four great-
grandchildren.
Joan said: “I don’t
believe couples who
say they’ve never
had a cross word,
but we always talk
about problems and
solve them before the
end of the day.” She
added: “Sometimes I
wonder where the
time has gone but
then I look at my
great-grandchildren
and I realise.
Jack said: “We are
very lucky to have
found each other.”

Soap star is cleared of

bite attack in pub row

AN EMMERDALE star has
vowed to concentrate on his
acting career after being
cleared of biting a pensioner
in a pub row.
Mark Jordon, 54, who plays
Daz Spencer in the soap, was
accused of attacking Andrew
Potts, 68, after he allegedly
made snide comments about
his teenage daughter.
But after a seven-day trial at
Manchester’s Minshull Street
Crown Court, Jordon was
found not guilty of affray,
unlawful wounding and assault
by beating.
After the verdict was
announced yesterday, the for-
mer Heartbeat star hugged
fiancee Laura Norton, who
plays Emmerdale’s Kerry
Wyatt. He later said: “I really

am grateful to the jury for
proving my innocence and
especially for proving the inno-
cence of my loved ones,
who’ve had to endure this
awful ordeal with me.
“I’m looking forward to get-
ting back to our engagement
and my career, which has been

on hold. ” The court heard that
on July 1 last year, Jordon had
been drinking at the Farrars
Arms pub, near his home in
Oldham, Greater Manchester,
to celebrate his engagement.
The trial viewed CCTV foot-
age from the pub showing
Jordon having to be held back
from Mr Potts.
He claimed he was trying to
grab a phone from Mr Potts,
who allegedly called his daugh-
ter Poppy a “slag” and claimed
he would post a video of her
on YouTube.
Giving evidence, Mr Potts
told the court Jordon
screamed: “I’ll ******* kill
you, you old *******.”
The actor denied Mr Potts’s
claim that he had been taking
cocaine and said a punch from
the pensioner made his nose
bleed. The court heard that

after the altercation, Mr Potts
and his partner, Rosalind
O’Neill, left the pub but were
later confronted by Jordon as
he got out of a taxi.
Mr Potts told the jury that
Jordon “growled like a mad
dog” before pushing Ms
O’Neill to the floor and biting
him on the thumb and face.
Jordon told the court he
acted in self-defence as the
pensioner attacked him.
He said: “It was not planned,
it was pure instinct.”
Jordon, who had been due
on the set of Emmerdale the
day after his arrest, suffered a
fractured wrist when kicked by
Mr Potts.
His character was last seen
on screen in January.
A spokesman for the soap
said there were “no current
plans” for him to return.
