like the face of a pig. We’re in San
Sebastien (well, the programme is.
I’m no longer sure I’ll be rushing
there myself), where Fred
concludes his travels in the
company of foodie Nisha Katona.
And yes, Nisha does indeed take
him to a place, Mugartiz, that
serves this porcine speciality as
part of its world-famously
inventive tasting menu.
The pig face is actually made
from crispy chicken skin.
But it does have a chorizo foam
inside.
I don’t know about you but
whenever I’m famished, a chorizo
foam is the one thing I could
murder.

barefoot, to remove any
structurally harmful greenery
sprouting way up there. Not only
that but they use almost no safety
gear (the stonework is too crumbly
to fix ropes to it).
They do have hard hats, but you
can’t help thinking that, were any
of these guys to slip from such a
height, a hard hat would be
roughly as useful as a felt beret.
Elsewhere tonight, for its final
part, REMARKABLE PLACES TO

we meet in this first programme,
risk life and limb to ensure a
hallowed structure’s survival.
These are the Buddhist gardeners
at Angkor in Cambodia, a complex
of ancient temples that was once
part of a mega-city, thought to
have been larger than Paris.
They’re worried that the
surrounding jungle, if
unchallenged, will ultimately
engulf their temple and bring it
crashing down, and that the spirits
will then be unhappy and leave
forever.
“If we lost them, life would be
meaningless,” explains the
65-year-old chap in charge. So they

only is it deployed more sparingly
here but it’s also being used rather
more appropriately.
This is a series about

believers of all creeds will flock to
express their faith and devotion.

series focusing on some
of the planet’s most revered
spiritual landmarks.
We’re well into the sixth minute
before the word “iconic” crops up.
By modern documentary standards
this is extraordinarily restrained.
Typically nowadays we’d be
looking at, what, 60 seconds or less
before the “i” word made its first
appearance.
And the chances are the narrator
would be using it to describe, I
don’t know, a potato, perhaps, or

tonight’s TV

DID YOU KNOW? In 2010, Roisin Conaty won the Best
Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Festival for her show,
Hero, Warrior, Fireman, Liar, being one of five women to
receive an Edinburgh Comedy award in 30 years.

PICKS OF THE DAY

Nature: Animal Babies: First Year On
Earth, BBC2, 9pm
Sadly this is the concluding instalment
of the three-part mini-series but it
goes out on a high with more
remarkable footage of young animals
making their way in the world. In the
final episode of the series, the six
baby animals we have focused on
approach the end of their first year on
Earth. In Iceland, an Arctic fox cub
rejected by his mother must learn
where to find food for the first time,
while in Kenya, spotted hyena (left)
twin sisters must roam a territory they
share with the biggest threat to their
lives – lions. Whether breaking ties or
building bonds, all the young animals
must learn for themselves how to stay
healthy and safe.

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm

As we arrive in Weatherfield tonight, Eileen (Sue
Cleaver, above left) quizzes Jan about Seb, but he
insists he was working in Birmingham. Later, though,
she is gutted when he reveals his true colours. Gary
searches for his lost money in the flower shop before
confronting Ryan over his apparent windfall. A bit like
EastEnders earlier in the week, plenty of drama flying
about on the cobbles this evening.

Documentary: The Best Little Prison In Britain, ITV, 8pm

Prison officer Jonesy and repeat offender burglar
Jonno, who have enjoyed an unlikely friendship,
prepare to go their separate ways as one readies for
retirement and the other for release to the outside
world. Meanwhile, a row has broken out over boiled
eggs, setting Margo (above, front) on the warpath and
she is determined to root out the bullies who have
taken more than their fair share.

Film: Taken 3, Film4, 9pm
When Bryan Mills was
flying to Paris in a furious
rage – eager to hunt down
his daughter’s captors –
in the first Taken film, few
would have believed we
would reach a trilogy but
here we are with part
three. Ex-CIA agent Mills’
efforts to live a quiet life
are shattered by the
death of his ex wife. Just
when things seemingly
can’t get any worse, he is
framed for her murder
and must fight to clear his
name. Action thriller
sequel, starring Liam
Neeson (right) alongside
Forest Whitaker and
Maggie Grace.

Comedy: GameFace, C4,
10.05pm
There is no doubting the
talent Roisin Conaty (left)
has, both as an actress
and a script writer, and it
has shone through in this
enjoyable second series.
In tonight’s fourth
episode, Marcella lands
herself a part in a
television advert. Later, at
a session with her life
coach, student Frances
cross-examines her about
what she will do with her
earnings from the project.
Meanwhile, she decides
to celebrate her good luck
with margaritas, forgetting
she has signed up for a
creative writing class.
