PROJECT // violets in the orchard

b. Place one square right sides together
with one, 3½" x 6½" Pink Peach Bloom
rectangle and stitch along drawn line,
illust. 3b.
c. Trim excess fabric leaving ¼" seam
allowance and press open, illust. 3c.
d. Repeat with second square on opposite
end of rectangle to make one, Flying
Geese unit.
e. Unit should measure 3½" x 6½", illust. 3d.


  1. Make total of four Flying Geese units
    in similar manner.

  2. Repeat to make twelve Flying Geese
    units with Pink Wild Cherry rectangles
    and Pink Garden Gates squares.


Dog Violet Blocks
1a. Take one, Pink Peach Blossom Flying
Geese unit, three Wild Cherry Flying
Geese units, one 6½" Pink Garden Gates
square and four, 3½" Pink Fruit Silhouette
squares and arrange pieces into three
rows of three units.
b. Join units together in rows, noting
orientation of Flying Geese units, illust. 4a.
c. Join rows together to complete block
centre, illust. 4b.
d. Block centre should measure 12½"
square.


  1. Make two block centres in total.
    3a. Join one, Pink Peach Blossom/Pink
    Fruit Silhouette triangle unit to one side of
    block centre, illust. 5a.
    b. Add three, Pink Wild Cherry/Pink Fruit
    Silhouette triangle units to remaining
    three sides to complete Dog Violet block,
    illust. 5b.
    c. Block should measure 17½" square.

  2. Make second pink block in same way.
    5a. Take two, Pink Peach Blossom Flying
    Geese units, six Wild Cherry Flying Geese
    units, two 6½" Pink Garden Gates squares
    and eight, 3½" Teal Fruit Silhouette
    squares to make further two block
    centres in similar manner.
    b. Add remaining triangle units made with
    Teal Fruit Silhouette to block centres to
    make two, blue Dog Violet blocks.

Corner units


  1. Take care when piecing corner units
    as each one is specific to each corner.
    Refer to quilt layout for positioning.
    2a. Take one, 4½" Pink Fruit Silhouette
    square and join it to one, 2½" x 4½"
    Pink Primula Dawn rectangle.
    b. Add one, 4½" x 12½" Pink Orchard
    rectangle to opposite side of Primula
    Dawn rectangle, followed by one, 2½" x
    4½" Pink Primula Dawn rectangle.
    c. Add one, 4^7 ⁄ 8 " Teal Fruit Silhouette
    triangle and join to Pink Primula Dawn
    rectangle, taking care to ensure correct
    orientation of triangle, illust. 6a.
    3a. Make second pieced row in similar
    manner by joining one, 2½" x 4½" Pink
    Primula Dawn rectangle, followed by
    one, 2½" Pink Fruit Silhouette square
    and one, 2½" x 12½" Pink Primula
    Dawn rectangle.
    b. Add one, 2^7 ⁄ 8 " Teal Fruit Silhouette
    triangle to end of strip, again taking
    care with orientation of triangle,
    illust. 6b.
    4a. Take one, 6½" Blue Kimberly
    and Sarah square and two, 6^7 ⁄ 8 " Blue
    Kimberly and Sarah triangles. Join one
    triangle to one side of square.
    b. Press seam towards square and
    trim ‘ear’.
    c. Add second triangle to adjacent side
    of square to make pieced triangle,
    illust. 6c.

  2. Add one, 2½" x 12½" Pink Primula
    Dawn rectangle to one edge of pieced
    triangle followed by one, 4½" x 12½"
    Pink Orchard rectangle, illust. 6d.

  3. Join one, 2^7 ⁄ 8 " Pink Fruit Silhouette
    triangle to end of one, 2½" x 4½" Pink
    Primula Dawn rectangle, illust. 6e.

  4. Join pieced strips together, adding
    one, 5^3 ⁄ 8 " Pink Fruit Silhouette triangle
    to top to complete corner unit.

  5. Refer to quilt layout and make
    further three corner units, noting
    orientation and colour of triangles at
    ends of rows.

  6. Repeat steps 2 to 4 to make further
    two units with remaining Pink Peach
    Bloom squares and four, 3½" x 10" Pink
    Fruit Silhouette rectangles, illust. 1f.

  7. Make further six units with 7½" Pink
    Wild Cherry squares and 3½" x 10" Teal
    Fruit Silhouette rectangles and six units
    with 7½" Pink Wild Cherry squares and
    3½" x 10" Pink Fruit Silhouette rectangles,
    illust. 2a and illust. 2b.


PIECING
Use ¼" seam allowance throughout


Flying Geese Units
1a. Take two, 3½" Pink Garden Gates
squares and draw a diagonal line on
wrong side of each square, illust. 3a.
