3 British Patchwork & Quilting JANUARY 14

Ah! The height of the British summer! After the long hot summer of last
year, a little part of me longs for a cooler one this year. It’s much more
conducive for quilting for starters! And when your sewing room is your
conservatory, it’s the last place you want to be when the sun is beating
down. Still we mustn’t grumble! It was a glorious summer!

A wide variety of projects for you this month. Chris Franses has made a
wonderful Scrappy Log Cabin quilt to which she added a twist to give it a
more interesting setting, while Helen has been playing with Liberty fabrics
in her Violets in the Orchard throw quilt. I couldn’t resist the delightful
Giraff e Bag when I fi rst saw it. A fun make if ever I saw one. Quillows are
always useful and the Walk in the Park Quillow is perfect for summer
picnics. We make another pieced block in Stars and Flowers and make the
next row in our Down on the Croft series quilt. Stuart’s Stashbusting this
month features fun star blocks.

With the competition quilt season in full swing now, Helen reviews the
recent Quilts UK show in Malvern. We take a look at the work of Bridget
Riley for quilt inspiration and fi nd out more out the trend of Maximalism in
quilting. Sheilah Daughtree tells us about Textiles Treasures of the British
Library. We meet the Bont Quilting Circle in Introducing and Karen Platt
shows us her First and Last quilts.

Until next time
