CUTTING
Cut across width of fabric. LOF strips are cut
along the length of fabric parallel to selvedge
- From Grey Houses cut:
five, 5" x LOF strips – inner border,
two, 3" x LOF strips sub cut into:
two, 3" x 18½" strips,
two, 3" x 13½" strips. - From Turquoise Flowers cut:
six, 3" strips. - From Cream Paws cut:
six, 2" strips. - From Grey Dogs cut:
six, 3" strips. - From Turquoise Hearts cut:
nine, 2" strips – inner and outer borders,
seven, 2¼" strips – binding.
PIECING
Use ¼" seam allowance throughout
1a. Take one, 3" Grey Dogs strip and
join it along its length to one, 2" Cream
Paws strip.
b. Add one, 3" Turquoise Flowers strip
to opposite side of Cream paws strip,
illust. 1a.
c. Press seams open.
- Repeat to make six joined strip sets in
total.
3a. Cross cut joined strip sets into thirty,
7" blocks, illust. 1b.
b. Set remainder of strip sets to one side.
ASSEMBLY
1a. Arrange blocks into six rows of five
blocks.
b. Rotate alternate blocks to create
Rail Fence pattern, illust. 2.
2a. Measure quilt top horizontally
through its centre and trim two, 2"
Turquoise Flowers strips to this length.
b. Add strips to top and bottom edges
of quilt.
3a. Measure quilt top vertically through
its centre and trim two, 2" Turquoise
Flowers strips to this length. Join any
leftover strips if necessary to ensure
strips are correct length.
b. Add strips to opposite sides of quilt top.
4a. Add 5" Grey Houses strips to quilt
top in same way.
b. You will need to join strips for side
borders.
c. Take care to ensure houses are facing
towards centre of quilt on each side.
- Add remaining 2" Turquoise Flowers
strips as outer border in same way to
complete quilt top.
6a. Take panel print and cut panel up into
its component pieces adding as much
seam allowance as you can to each piece.
b. Ensure one piece is reserved for front
of cushion when quilt is folded up as a
quillow.
c. Fold seam allowance under and press
to form a neat edge on each panel piece,
illust. 3a.
d. Position panel pieces at random on
quilt top and pin in place when happy
with their positions.
e. Appliqué edges of each panel piece
with zigzag or blanket stitch, or appliqué
by hand, illust. 3b.
