Sometimes my quilts are complex and include a couple of
thousand tiny scraps sewn together over many hours. Sometimes
my quilts are simple and super quick and this is one such quilt.
For me, even a quick quilt needs to be visually exciting and joyful
so simple squares are brought to life by a scattering of stars!

LARGE STAR BLOCK
Finished size: 18" square

For one block you will need:


  • 6½" Square light yellow or tan

  • 8, 3½" Squares light yellow or tan

  • 8, 6½" Squares assorted scraps


MAKE THE BLOCK
Use ¼" seam allowance throughout


  1. Take 3½" light yellow squares and draw diagonal line on
    wrong side of each square.

  2. Arrange 6½" assorted scraps squares with 6½" light yellow
    square into three rows of three squares with yellow square
    in centre.
    3a. Take one, 6½" scrap square adjacent to centre square
    and place one, 3½" light yellow square right sides together
    with square, aligning corners.
    b. Stitch along diagonal.
    c. Trim excess fabric and press light yellow back to make
    star point.


d. Repeat to adjacent corner.


  1. Repeat with each square adjacent to centre square.
    5a. Join squares together in rows.
    b. Press seams for middle row in opposite direction.
    c. Join rows together to complete block.
    d. Block should measure 18½" square.


SMALL STAR BLOCK
Finished size: 6" square

For one block you will need:


  • 3½" Square light yellow or tan

  • 8, 2" Squares light yellow or tan

  • 4, 2" x 3½" Rectangles dark or medium print

  • 4, 2" Squares dark or medium print


MAKE THE BLOCK
1a. Mark diagonal line on wrong side of 2" light yellow
squares.
b. Follow ‘stitch and fl ip’ method given for Large Star block
and make four, Flying Geese units with squares and 2" x 3½"
dark or medium print rectangles.
2a. Arrange Flying Geese units around 3½" light yellow square,
adding 2" dark print squares to corners.
b. Join units and squares together in rows.
c. Press seams away from Flying Geese units.
d. Join rows together to complete block which should
measure 6½" square.
