it’s the pet project to end
them all — and now these
cute hamsters have become
big wheels on social media.
When Beverly Borrill’s daughter
isabel, 14, made a mini hot air
balloon for a school project, they
both thought it would be fun to
photograph the family’s pet
hamsters, Max and Lulu, in it.
After that, the 52-year-old
teacher’s ideas came thick and fast
and when the number of the
family’s furry pets swelled from two
to 14 in 18 months, the photo
opportunities were endless.
so far the hamsters have played
tennis at Wimbledon, enjoyed a
round of golf, partied at
Glastonbury, picked up fish and
chips and even starred in
much-loved British tV shows such
as Doctor Who and MasterChef —
all from the comfort of Beverly’s
home in Devizes, Wiltshire.
Beverly and isabel set up Face-
book page Harcourt Hammies to
show off their creations and it
quickly gained popularity.
‘i drew inspiration from the every-
day things around us — and i chose
the Mail for the hamsters to be
reading outside Costa because i
read the app on my phone every
day,’ says mother-of-four Beverly.
‘People ask how to get their
hamsters to sit still. the simple
answer is patience and lots of
perseverance. And a little bit of
peanut butter!’
