More than 100 residents
spilled on to the street as smoke

while firefighters tackled the

A spokesman for London Fire
Brigade said: “Eight fire engines
and around 60 firefighters tack-
led a small fire in a bin room of a
block of flats on Oxestalls Road
in Deptford. Part of the groundfloor bin chute was damaged by
fire. A number of people left the
27-storey [block] before fire
crews arrived, with other resi-
dents remaining safely inside
their flats. The fire was under
control shortly after 10pm and
residents were allowed to return
