MASK THE EFFECT
Go to Filter >
Distort > Shear and skew
the image a little more.
Highlight the Smart Filter
mask in Layers, then
press Cmd/Ctrl+I to invert
it. Grab the Rectangular
Marquee tool, then Shift-
drag a few rectangles
across. Press D then
Alt+Backspace to fill the
area on the Smart Filter
mask with white.

ADD COLOR
EFFECTS
Open ‘glitch_texture’
and drag it in to the main
image, then go to the
Layers panel and change
the Blending Mode to
Overlay. Duplicate the
layer twice with Cmd/
Ctrl+J then press Cmd/
Ctrl+I to invert the tones.
Nudge the top layer
down slightly. Make any
other changes you want.

Smart Objects are like protective
bubbles for your layers. Anything that
is applied to a Smart Object layer – like a filter
or a transform – can be edited after the fact.
Filters appear as Smart Filters, and you can
simply double-click the filter name to re-enter
the settings. What’s more, you can resize the

layer up or down as much as you like, with no
loss in quality.
If a document contains several linked
Smart Objects, you can update them all at
once. You can also double-click a Smart Object
thumbnail to open the layer as a document,
then make changes before saving it to go
back to the original image.
You can even group more than one layer
into a Smart Object (Cmd/Ctrl-click to select
several, then right-click and choose Convert
To Smart Object), which can be useful for
streamlining your layers.
