MORE TOOLS
As well as the Detail panel,
you’ll also find sharpening
and noise reduction controls
within the Adjustment Brush,
so you can apply it selectively
to areas of the image. What’s
more, you’ll find Output
Sharpening settings in the
Save dialog box. The options
here may look simple, but
the command has been
calibrated to work with the
image size (which can be
set in the Save dialog box’s
Image Sizing section).

NOISE REDUCTION
Luminance tackles the grainy
noise you often see in high-
ISO images. Luminance Detail
controls the threshold for
the noise reduction. A high
value preserves detail but
can give noisier results, while
a low value may smooth out
details too much. Luminance
Contrast is often worth using
when a low Luminance Detail
value is set. It preserves
detail and enhances contrast,
but can emphasize noise
along edge details.

COLOR NOISE
Color noise can often occur
in the shadows in high-
ISO images. It appears as
colored speckles. Usually,
the default Color value of
25 that Camera Raw applies
to raw photos is enough
to remove color noise,
but this can be increased.
Color Detail refines this fix.
It helps to preserve color
fidelity at high values but
can emphasize noise, while
low values may result in
some color bleeding.
