The Andy White Collection

Mid-May saw a specialist sale at Vectis in Thornaby, focusing
entirely of the collection of classic toy enthusiast Andy White
and consisting of over 700 lots. On off er were boxed and unboxed
models from big name British brands such as Dinky Toys,
Corgi Toys, Tri-ang Spot-On, Budgie Toys, etc, some rather
splendid gift sets, and much more. Let’s take a look at some
of the highlights...

Doubling the top
end of its £200-£240
estimate when the
gavel fell was this
Tri-ang Spot-On No.
145 London Transport
Routemaster Bus with
Ovaltine ads.

This Dinky Toys^
No. 138 Hillman Imp
Saloon, featuring red
interior with luggage
case, spun hubs and
black tyres, more than
tripled the top end of
its £60-£70 estimate.

The catalogue
estimate for
this No. 316
Maintenance
Truck in Public
Works Dept livery,
was £60-£70),
but the level of
interest ensured
that this Budgie
didn’t go ‘cheap’

This Dinky Toys trade box
containing six examples of
the No. 31b Trojan ‘Dunlop’
Van, all in “fair to good”
condition more than doubled
the top end of its £120-£140
catalogue estimate.

Also almost
tripling the top
end of its catalogue
estimate (£80-£90)
was this “excellent
plus” example
of Dinky Toys
No. 141 Vauxhall
Victor Estate.

This Dinky Toys No. 171
Hudson Commodore
Sedan from the Andy
White Collection
absolutely smashed its
£50-£60 estimate.

This second issue of Corgi Toys Chipper elds
Circus Gift Set GS23, with Land Rover, Elephant
Cage on Trailer, Scammell 6-wheeled Crane
Truck, Bedford TK Gira e Transporter and two
cages, in “good plus to excellent” condition,
easily outperformed its catalogue estimate.

In excellent condition,
this example of Tri-ang
Spot-On No. 217
Jaguar E Type had
carried an estimate
of £100-£120.

Catalogued with an estimate of £50-£70 and the
acknowledgement that, while being in generally lovely
condition, there was the odd trace of rust, this Budgie
Toys No. 306 Tractor did notably better than anticipated.

Despite some wear
to the window box
packaging, the Austin
1800, Ford Zephyr
with gures and
Dinghy on Trailer in
this Tri-ang Spot-On
Gift Set were all in
generally excellent
condition and the lot
did considerably
better than its
£240-£280 estimate
had suggested.
