Jade’s a friend

You couldn’t make it up!
(But they do)

Gwen Verdon
in the 1950s

Merely Marvelous
● DOCUMENTARY / 10.30pm / BBC4

NEW

If the drama Fosse/Verdon has left you
wanting to know more about the life and
work of dancer Gwen Verdon, this celebration of
her talent is packed with the sort of talking heads
who actually know what they’re talking about.
There’s lots of footage of Gwen at her best, and even
the odd fascinating ‘well I never’ fact. ★★★★ SM

Zone of Champions
● ENTERTAINMENT / 6.25pm / ITV
Jack Bullman and Nicky Brimble are back with more
wacky clips and family-friendly banter. With so many
ridiculous and completely made-up sports to choose
from, there’s plenty to enjoy here, but the awkward viral
videos will have to go some way to beat the nerve-racking
escalator race we saw last time out. Cold Feet star John
Thomson and comedian Jessica Knappett are both on
fine form as the gaffe-prone presenters. ★★★★ SMA
Terrified of coming
out to his parents,
Marty pretends Jade
is his girlfriend
● DRAMA / 8.35pm / BBC1
Jade hasn’t always been a
perfect friend to Marty (in
fact, she’s been a nightmare at
times!) but tonight she’s really
stepping up as she agrees to
attend a family party as his
girlfriend. Determined to keep
his sexuality a secret, Marty
hopes Jade will throw his mum
Bibi off the scent. But when an
ambulance has to be called
to the event, life gets more
complicated than Marty ever
expected... Meanwhile, Archie
and Ciaran grow more
manipulative in their attempt
to bring down Connie, but
she’s not going down without
a fight. Elsewhere, Ethan
attempts a complex cardiology
procedure, and a concerned
David goes to extreme lengths
to find out what’s been
bothering Charlie. ★★★★^ EB
