The Best

Little Prison

in Britain?
● REAL LIFE / 8pm / ITV
(not Wales)
More lessons for the rest
of Britain’s penal system
from the Isle of Man’s only
prison, where wing officer
Jonesy will soon be laying
down his guitar and
retiring. No one will miss
him more than Jonno, ‘the
worst burglar ever’ (says
his sister), and you get the
impression the feeling is
mutual. ★★★★ SM

Remarkable Places to Eat
● FOOD / 8pm / BBC2

LAST ONE

San Sebastián in the Basque
Country is known for having
more Michelin stars per square metre than
anywhere else in the world, so it’s no surprise
to see it as the final destination in this
series. Restaurateur Nisha Katona gets out
her little black book and begins by taking
Fred Sirieix to the two-Michelin-starred
Mugaritz, ranked in the world’s top 10

places to eat, where they have a meal of 20
courses. By contrast, they then eat at two
places with much simpler menus – tortilla
at Bar Nestor and chuletón steak at Casa
Julián in Tolosa. But which one prompts
Fred to say: ‘This is one of the most perfect
restaurants I’ve ever been to’? No doubt he’d
be more than happy to do another series,
and we’d love to see one too. ★★★★ JP

An im a l B a bies : First Yea r o n Ea r t h
● WILDLIFE / 9pm / BBC2

LAST ONE

Our final look at our six
baby animals’ first months
on Earth takes us to the end of their first
year, and it’s a time for most of them to
work out how to do things without their
mothers’ help. Ugandan mountain gorilla
Nyakabara soon gets the hang (literally)
of stripping bark off trees and picking

berries. Meanwhile, the Arctic fox cubs are
out on their own after their mother rejects
them, and they have to find their own food.
And spotted hyena twins Chowder and
Bisque have to go out and explore the Kenya
savannah alone and compete with lions
and rival packs for food – and survival.
It’s a real-life Lion King. ★★★★ LP

Can You Beat

the Bookies?

● DOCUMENTARY / 10.35pm (times vary) / BBC1

NEW

Lloyd Griffith explores how betting companies
make billions from our love of having a flutter.
He gives himself a budget of £7,500 and four weeks to see
if he can double it, talking to gamblers and immersing
himself in the world of betting. An honest and revealing
film about how easy it is to become addicted and how the
odds are stacked against the average punter. ★★★★ JL
