Angling Trust RiverFest 2019 heat.
Welsh International Lee Edwards
(Maver) topped the 60-pegger with
37 lb 3 oz of pole-tempted ‘slabs’,
eels, perch and a bonus tench from
end peg in A Zone.
Lee’s win thwarted fellow
Welshman Andrew ‘Spud’ Murphy

with 30 lb 6 oz from the same zone.
Joining Lee in the Final will
be Drennan Barnsley Blacks
manager Glenn Lawrence, B Zone
winner with 28 lb 13 oz, and David
Thornley who topped C Zone with

THIS Saturday, July 13, Maver
Hayfi eld Lakes hosts the 26th
annual Fish‘O’Mania Final, with
live TV coverage on Sky Sports
throughout the event, with half-
hourly weigh-ins.
At stake is the coveted
title and trophy, along with a
£50,000 winner’s cheque, with
a £10,000 consolation for the
runner-up in the 24-qualifi er
fi eld.
A hot pre-draw favourite for
the crown is Jamie Hughes,
whose victories in 2013, 2015
and 2017 made him the fi rst
ever triple Fish‘O’Mania champ.
Andy May, victorious in 2016,
is another fi nalist who knows
what it takes to win this match.
Former Angler’s Mail
Matchman of the Year winners
Andy Bennett and Lee
Thornton are surely both due
another ‘major’ title soon?
And who could ignore the
talents of Will Raison, the multi-

capped England International
and 2008 World Champion.
Current England Youth
international Jordan Holloway
is another fi nalist currently in
superb form. Could he become
an even younger champion
than last year’s winner Pete
Black, who was aged just 21?
Give any of those anglers a
decent draw and it’s sure to
be ‘game on’! But the same
can be said of all of the other
fi nalists, who seized their
opportunity in qualifying heats
and will be going all-out to
repeat the feat on the big stage.
This year’s Final includes
two overseas heat winners

  • Dutchman Carl Visser and
    Germany’s Markus Billen – plus
only the second female fi nalist
    in Fish’O history, Abbi Kendall.
    Alongside the main event are
    six-angler Ladies and Junior
    Fish’O Finals, the winner of
    each collecting £1,000.

Covey 4, and mustered 151 lb 9 oz
and 146 lb 8 oz from pegs 92 and

ALL-ROUND match superstar
Andy Power made a guest
appearance for Garbolino
Blackmore Vale in Round Two of
the South West Superleague, on
Somerset’s River Huntspill, and
duly won the 56-pegger with
55 lb 2 oz of feeder-tempted
bream to 6 lb.
PI-backed Andy drew closest
to the car park at Woolavington
up, where he fed micro pellets
and casters, baiting his hook
with worms, to see off closest
rival Nigel Evans (Daiwa Gordon
League) with 47 lb 8 oz from two
pegs away.
PI Thatchers won fi ve sections,
to pip Daiwa Gordon League by
45 points to 44, extending the
league lead over their fi erce
rivals to 87 points to 83.

Donny rod Wright
DONCASTER matchman Paul
Wright scooped a cool £10,
champion’s cheque in the
inaugural Dynamite Baits Swim
Stim In The Mix Final, at his
local Maver Hayfi eld Lakes.
A mighty 114 kg 780 g haul
from peg 70 on Island Lake
helped Paul (Halkon Hunt/Willy
Worms) see off a sustained
challenge from Jon Arthur
(Dynamite Baits), who fi nished
with 103 kg 30 g, from peg 80
on the same lake.
“I’m absolutely buzzing.
All the near misses and effort
I’ve put into my fi shing has
fi nally paid off,” said Paul, who
admitted to “really fancying”
his peg on arrival – despite it
seldom being a match winner.
“I knew there would be no

start, it died off a bit mid-

thanked Dynamite Baits and
Hayfi eld owners Robin and
Noelie Goforth for running and
hosting the event.
