the past few weeks the fi shing
has been hard, to say the least,
but there are signs that sport is
starting to improve, with bream,
skimmers, roach, ide and perch
starting to have a go. Recent
match weights improving, and
pleasure bags higher.
Tactics? Method feeder with
pellets or traditional feeder with
chopped worm, casters and
pinkies the most consistent
methods, but pole worth a


try on the deeper pegs on the
roadside bank.

Loversall Lakes
Where? Quarry Farm, Loversall,
Doncaster, South Yorkshire,

What’s being caught? Good
sport, with F1s and carp
dominating catches, along with
ide, skimmers and roach.
Tactics? Pole shallow with

pellets for the F1s and carp, and
maggots or casters for mixed
bags, for the most consistent
sport. Corn, pellets and meat
in the margins producing
some bigger carp late in the
afternoon and into the evening.

Moor Monkton Pools
Where? Church Lane, Moor

What’s being caught? Plenty
of carp being caught on all
lakes, with a number of
100 lb-plus match weights.
Tactics? Pole with banded
pellets, paste or meat has given
the biggest catches. Pellet
waggler and ’tip have also
produced some good catches,
and plenty of fi sh being caught
in the margins later in the day.

Walker’s Dam
Where? Off Flanshaw Lane,
Alverthorpe, Wakefi eld, West

What’s being caught? Some
good bags of carp and bream
reported, along with roach,
tench and crucians. Recent
match won with 52 lb of carp,
with a bag of 30 lb of bream
and skimmers second.
Tactics? Pole or feeder with
pellets for the best carp bag,
while pole with worms and
pellets accounted for the best
bream catches.

Worsbrough Reservoir
Where? Worsbrough, Barnsley,
South Yorkshire, S70 5LJ. Day

What’s being caught? Some
good catches of carp, bream
and skimmers reported. Also
some good bags of smaller
skimmers, roach and perch if
targeted.
Tactics? Long-range feeder
produces the best catches.
Method feeder with pellets,
mini boilies and wafters will
tempt the carp, as well as
bream. Groundbait feeder with
chopped worm and casters,
and maggots or worms on the
hook, to target the bream and
skimmers.
